Fantastic photos there - I'm just sorry that I missed them the first time around when they were originally posted. God I love the F-15: it's such a beautiful looking aircraft compared to the 5th Generation fighters like the F-22 and F-35. Thanks Kiwirico for bring these photos to the top of the thread list again.

Fantastic shots there Dave. The Hercules photo looks positively tropical.
There don't seem to be many people in your photos, which makes them all the better.

The hill behind Ohakea was removed in the 1990s defence funding cuts?

Awesome pics!!! It looks from some of the pics that you and my friend may have taken photos from a similar vantage point. Fantastic record of the day and the arriving aircraft. I see what you mean about the tanks on the F4, must have been a thirsty beast or maybe not kitted up for air to air refueling unlike the F15? ... I wonder if that similar vantage point was a bus chartered by some aviation types that drove up from Wellington for the day. I was reminiscing about Dad taking me and my brother out of school for the day, going by bus up to Ohaeka to see F-15s arrive, and had an online search to see if there were any photos from that day around, and came across this thread. The photos taxiing along after arriving triggered a few memory bells.

This wonderful photo, which I assume is Air Force Museum of New Zealand Official copyright, was sent to me by Peter Layne of the Classic Flyers Museum Archives, who gained permission from his section leader Kevin Keys for this to be posted here. This was taken during the Air Force Day 1981 at Ohakea . I have been using this thread and other sources to piece together an entry for this airshow on the Wings Over Cambridge Airshow Archives page, but there are still many gaps, such as pilot and crew names, and aircraft serials. If anyone was there (especially if you took part), please can you delve into your photos, memories and logbooks and help to fill in the blanks? Here's the entry: www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/Airshow_History_1980s.html#1981

Following on from Lloyd George's photos from the 1964 Airshow and Open Day it turns out he was at this event as well: RNZAF Andovers dropping SAS paratroopers USAF Boeing KC-135A Stratotanker 62-3518 RAF Vickers VC-10 C1 XV106 Lockheed P3 Orion display Lockheed C-130 display There is a single photo dated 1976 of NZ6210. Cursory googling doesn't bring up an open day in 1976 so I'll leave it here unless anyone can suggest a better home.

Wow that would have been an amazing day out.
Anyone know if that cover of the programme can be bought as a poster? It’s awesome.
