Hello all
At the request of a couple of people involved the main content of this thread has been removed permanently. I have left in the discussion that had nothing to do with the topic as it was unrelated and thus not inflammatory
I have unlocked the thread again if you want to continue discussing the topics left.

lol , is there more than two ATC Cadets on this board? I see you guys running around Hobby, looks like ATC could be a bit of fun. I have to admit however that seeing uniformed teenagers ordering others around would have got my back up when I was that age. Still each to there own I suppose. Do any of your Instructors actually fly or serve actively in the RNZAF? I have heard some derogatory comments about them from aircrew over the years....although most seem to do a good job. Do they wear a different rank slide to normal RNZAF officers?

Yea that would be our junior leaders course or senior leader course. I personaly don't know of any of the officers or NCOs actually serve in the RNZAF but i suppose they should. Yes they do wear sort of different rank slides, instead of New Zealand on the rank slide we have Cadet Forces. We don't have DPM style rank slides just the plain blue.

Hi Andrew,
Welcome back to the forum (I hope you caught Air Force on the weekend).
ATC officers are I believe actually Territorial Air Force Officers. That's what I was told when at Wigram, and they do a full Officers' Training Course. I was once 'rent-a-crowd' on an officer's Passing Out parade. There were all these young 20-somethings becoming pilots, and an old guy being given his Commission as an ATC Officer. Till then I never knew they had a proper Commission.

Gidday Dave,
I have actually managed to track down the series on DVD... ;D ( knew someone on the "inside"!!)
ATC Officers always amuse me as a civvie living on base with my partner. Rest assured they still try to play the "rank game" with the actual RNZAF Officers...however, when a "weekend warrior" tries to tell a Herc, P3 or Helicopter crew or pilot what to do (people who have actually seen REAL action) they are given the short shift in no uncertain terms.
ATC officers perfrom a valuable role, there is no denying that, but those in charge need to keep there so called "rank" in context and understand what position and experience they actually hold.

It wouldn't have been any of 30 sqns officers I know that for a fact. Everytime an actual forces officer walks near the expected standfast is always called and knowing our officers they would never try to pull rank like that, heck they don't really even do it to us. They are just as polite and respectful to us as another officer (minus standing at attention and the saluting).

Yes well our officers have got to be the coolest officers , some of the ones in other squadrons ( no offence to them as they are trying their best) are acting like they are on some kind of drug..... What is with that?

yeah some officers are like that, the act all stuck up and so on, and then you get the "outside cdts" from other sqns thinking they are complete tossers, but then if you think about "their" cdts, they wouldnt think that (well hopfully unless you transfer or something) because its what they started with and what they know, and then when they were cdts their officers might have been like that. Theres a NCO in 3sqn that i totally dislike and we do not get along fullstop, but when i was talking to one of my officers she said that if i had seen the officers he was around when he was a cdt and "baby" NCO you would be able to see how it runs. (i hope someone understands what i just wrote, sorry if you dont)

theres a officer who i personally thinks a arrogant rat-bag(nicest word i could think of) and i just dont like him at all, but when i was talking some cdts from that sqn they said hes their favourite officer and the coolest and so on. So really who are we to judge we are only cdts and dont know what goes on in other sqns? yes we do have opinions of everyones sqns and officers/ncos occaisonlly cdts, like my mine 5 sqn rodney district most, cdts outside of it probley think why do we even turn up to things? since we are so small, or think that we arent the same or have dont have enough discipline because we are all so close and pretty much no everything thing about everyone, thats what happens when you all come from 2 schools and the once & awhile odd school outside.

I have one thing to say Officers and NCOs at 30 Squadron never pull rank we are told to pay our compliments to airmen and women and so on as all cadets should.
