Glider pilot dies after crash
A 59-year-old man died after his glider crashed into hills about 55km north of Wanaka last night.
The pilot was taking part in the FAI World GP Gliding Championships being held in Omarama.
The Wellington-based Rescue Co-ordination Centre was alerted about 6.20pm that the pilot was overdue.
A Heli Works rescue helicopter from Queenstown found the glider about 8.30pm on a hillside at the northern end of Lake Wanaka.
