The pilot was taking part in the FAI World GP Gliding Championships being held in Omarama. The Wellington-based Rescue Co-ordination Centre was alerted about 6.20pm that the pilot was overdue. A Heli Works rescue helicopter from Queenstown found the glider about 8.30pm on a hillside at the northern end of Lake Wanaka.

Very sad,but in this form of the sport they are really pushing the limits,and those mountains are very unforgiving.
