Just thought I would post this, I have been in contact with a gentleman from the US regarding this rather interesting project that he has for sale. I am currently working through the idea of perhaps importing the project for completion and then syndicating it for a few people to enjoy, myself as one. For those that know me the idea of working through a project like this is quite feasible (not to say it isnt huge), and I feel could well be quite rewarding as a full scale FW190 with similar performance to an original would be a nice addition to NZ. Just a little on the machine itself; 100% scale Built to this stage over approx 5 years from original drawings from Germany and the British War Museum. Steel tube fuse, aluminium covered, all aluminium wing, composite tail surfaces. Built by a respected builder. Built strong (over engineered). Included: a Pratt & Whitney 1830 (an engine we all know and love ex DC3) 450hrs SMOH. I wont go in to too many details unless people want me too but feel free to PM me if you like the idea or would like to perhaps be involved in some way. Its just an idea at this point and it is not as expensive as you might think What do you think guys, I expect the odd flame about it not being real but well see how we go.

Very cool project; good luck.
It took me seven years from my first attempt to purchase Tigers Blood until it arrived in NZ, so don't give up all good things take much time and perseverance.
Cheers, Simon

Sounds like a very feasable project, but not cheap - If I wasnt tied up with my own over budget machine Id be tempted. hope you get some interest in it.

Wow, that would be so cool Ryan. Please do perservere and let us know what decision and progress you come to. I really hope you can find some interested syndicate members.
The only problem I see is now we have no Spitfire to tangle with it at airshows. Oh well, a Mustang will have to do.

If you persist in escalating the arms race with construction of this FW 190, we will have no alternative but to send over our Spitfires!
Ask Dave how it feels. They just raided Cambridge and we are awaiting battle reports.

Any further progress on this project? I remember seeing it in Dave McDonald's Butcher Bird survivor series in Classic Wings, and I'm curious about how she is now. It sure would be great to have her in New Zealand (I was deeply disappointed when the authentic project in I think Christchurch was sold overseas), perhaps if not this aircraft then perhaps a Jurca MJ-80?
Or, better yet, find someone willing to part with their Flug Werk example. Oooh, the possibilities!

I checked out this 190 several years ago when it was in Texas. Any updates on the project? Thanks

Never really heard much after the initial contact other than it being sold. It would be nice to know where it is now and how it is progressing.

Ditto! It is great that, after all these years of the 109 series being the only Luftwaffe fighter type represented at airshows, there is such an interest in the 190, and so many flying examples. It will be great to see this one join the ranks, wherever it may be.
