Surviving World War 1 aircraft

At the Key Publishing Forum there has been a major attempt to list all surviving World War 1 aircraft.
There has been some problems in coming up with a tight definition of what exactly is a genuine surviving artifact, but despite this problem there are an amazing number of surviving airframes, and an even more surprising number of them now in NZ:

The real surprise, to me, was the number of surviving Bleriot XI machines. Given that this was a pre-WW1 design, I would have expected that these would have been destroyed/scrapped fairly early in the war.

Re your list of surviving GW aircraft, I have one more to add. I'm helping to restore a Thomas Morse S-4B in Ithaca, New York. It's about 50% original and the intention is to have a ceremonial flight next year for its' 100th birthday, then retire it to a museum.

And then there are the genuine WWI machines being restored to flying status at Rongotai, but the identity and type of those is top secret to anybody who hasn't done a recent tour of the factory (and signed their confidentiality agreement) until such time as TVAL decides to reveal them, most likely when they go on the NZ register prior to taking to the air from Hood Aerodrome in Wairarapa.

Re the RAF Museum's Pup N5182, I have it on good authority that it was built from scratch but incorporates only a few items, like a strut or two and maybe a few more small items in the cockpit, but it is a reproduction. The story goes it was recovered from an airship shed in France with stuff from the Musee de L'Air by a chappie by the name of Desmond St Cyrien, who actually built it himself and recounted that it being original was a hokum to a well known British aircraft restorer, who did Hendon's Bristol Fighter, who then recounted the story to me, when I was investigating the history behind Al Letcher's Camel, which was up for sale a number of years back. Whilst working at Hendon I told the aircraft curator this wee piece of info, but got little positive response. The museum still claims that St Cyrien 'acquired' it, but enquiries by other historians revealed that the Musee de L'Air never had an airship shed with Great War aeroplanes in it. Never mind.
