Top bloke! Soldier thrown out By MICHAEL CUMMINGS - Manawatu Standard | Thursday, 12 July 2007 An 18-year-old Linton soldier charged with throwing Molotov cocktails at buildings in Palmerston North has been kicked out of the Army. Rikki Arthur Jenks, 18, failed to show for an appearance in the Palmerston North District Court yesterday and a warrant for his arrest was issued. Jenks is facing a charge of unlawful possession of explosives in relation to the June 25 incident. A homemade firebomb was allegedly thrown from a car at a Waldegrave Street flat about 8pm. Police had been called to another firebomb incident at Central City Vets in Pitt Street about 10 minutes earlier. Linton Army Camp spokesman Lieutenant Geoff Faraday said Jenks was discharged from the army on Tuesday. His contract was under review before he was charged in relation to the firebombing, Lt Faraday said. "His behaviour and conduct has been prejudicial to the values and ethos of the New Zealand Army. "Although given a number of opportunities to correct his behaviour, he failed to comply to the standards expected of those in the service and, hence, discharged."
