Since there has been no recent activity here - here are some of my recent shots RNZAF Orion over the Hauraki Gulf Approaching Whenuapai Baron landing at Tauranga

A RNZAF P-3C? Having externally loaded sonobuoys would be nice though...

Okay yes it is P-3C but this is the best P-3 sim model out there (and its free) - to be more acurate it is actually a Japanese Kawasaki-Lockheed P-3C with a NZ scheme.

Excellent pictures Naki! Nicely posed aircraft. The Tauranga scenics are pretty good - they are used on the "Flight experience" B737-800 simulator at Tauranga (used for training Pacific Blue crew, but open to the public as well) We hold our SportAvex planning meetings in the sim complex and we had a go flying it - One of our guys even landed the Boeing at Waihi Beach! Certainly the detail on the scenery is pretty stunning - Note the Bunnings warehouse!

It does look good, very good. But not enough exhaust smoke. Does it make the right noise? I love the sound of a low level fast Orion pass.

Thanks Bruce & Dave - the scenery is payware and is available from www.windowlight.co.nz/. Really nice scenery including Rotorua, Wanaka and Wellington. Yes the Orion sound is great but no smoke . Bruce despite the "Naki" (brought up in Taranaki) name I live in Tauranga - if you need any volunteers for next years Sportavex give me a yell (wife and children willing). Cheers Paul

Nice shots. That's not the P3 off the RNZAF website then?

No not the RNZAF model - It's a P-3 available at Avsim - this model has a virtual cockpit. The RNZAF repaint I also got from Avsim.

It's an RNZAF AP-3K that was purchased second hand from the RAAF in 2019! ;D

In the flight sim games, can you actually set it up so your Orion has to seek out and find a lost boat, or maybe a sumarine etc?

No unfortunately - would be great if it did - I have downloaded an add on to the Orion so I can drop torpedoes and after a few seconds there is an explosion of sorts. In FSX (which I don't have) there are SAR missions so perhaps an add on may come one day where you can do some SAR in a Orion but a sub hunt is probably a lot more difficult to model

Interesting pictures - I have never seen pictures of RNZAF Orions with JMSDF ones - do we exercise with the JMSDF Orions often?

Interesting pictures - I have never seen pictures of RNZAF Orions with JMSDF ones - do we exercise with the JMSDF Orions often? I don't think we've exercised with them as such, these were taken on the way home from a bi-annual "flag-waving" trip to Korea. The Japanese were extremely professional operators and very good hosts!
