Since Stu has beaten me to post some shots (nice shots Stu) of the flight sim Shorts Empire, I thought I'll post some shots of my latest acquisition (and free!) and another famous NZ aircraft instead. Taking off from Tauranga - yes I know it has drop tanks - I now know how to take them off. Landing at Wanaka

Now that I like!
By the way, in reality that is as dark as it gets at Tauranga Airport. I have stayed there in a tent and found all the lights from the nearby wharf, the motorway, and all the security lights on the aerodrome make it look as bright as those photos even when you're trying to sleep at 3am. Talk about light pollution area.
Did the RNZAF (TAF) Mustangs ever use drop tanks? I've never noticed them.

Does the sim have bullet holes by the way? The real one does.

No sorry no bullet holes! Where did it get those? -
No I haven't seen any photos of TAF Mustangs with drop tanks either - have got a picture of them with rockets though.
Were you camping at Sportavex?

The bullet holes are those stick on ones you see on some planes and cars. I assume they're still on it, they were a couple of years ago.
Yes, SportAvex. If you're going to camp there I recommend eyeshades and earplugs, or copius amounts of alcohol before bed. I had neither. I was up before 6am to film the sunrise but there was none as the place was so damned floodlit the sun had no chance of making an impact.

Where did you get the aircraft from?

Aircraft at Avsim library - search " p51dver2.zip". The repaint is from www.screenshotart.com/ - you have to register though

Does it sound as good as the real thing?

mmmm that was nice & low - Trevor Bland?
No not quite as good as the real thing but not bad. Reckon the Merlin is one of the best sounds around and sounds best in the Mustang (haven't heard a Mossie or Lanc though)
