It was a Mi-26. The reason I say that is about a month after that pic was taken the Mi-26 ended up flying into the side of a mountain. All 9 killed.

Superb photos Ned, what an excellent selection of shots, and what an amazing trip it must have been for you and Rob.
The photo of the dust storm is awesome, was that natural or caused by the rotors?

Dave - Caused by the Blackhawk. That was an awesome flight. I went along with the 82nd Airborne Blackhawks as they dropped off and moved around British Commando units who were going after the Taliban fighters that were sending rockets into Kandahar Air Base each night. The shots on the ground of the guys getting into the helos are also the same ones.

This is an amazing album of shots here. Some superb work indeed.
If you don't mind writing a little, I would put them together with some words to make a photo essay. I don't think you'd have too much trouble finding interest in it. Seeing that landscape as shot by a decent camera really gives a feel for what it would actually be like if you were there. The TV broadcasts from Afghanistan, even as shot by the BBC, are usually terrible quality for some reason.

Great shots... Did you get any from the Aussie Army CH-47's there?
Also who's are the Hueys? No markings, Miniguns and RWS I notice. :-)
CIA or a PMC?

All the pics sitting on the back ramp of the Chinooks are from the Aussie CH-47s and all the air to air of the CH47 is of the Aussie Chinooks as are a lot of the ones of it loading and unloading at TK.
The Huey IIs are the operation we were there with, US State Dept INL Air Wing, they are used for supporting the poppy eradication missions in the Helmand Valley.

Thanks Ned, Good stuff.
Who the RB-57 (or WB-57?) belong to? Thought on NASA operated those.
