It was really a last minute thing to take the video camera, however when we landed at Whitianga we swapped the camera to the other aircraft and took some shots on the way to Pauanui.
It was a perfect day as you can see and we got some great footage. I'm really happy with the result for a couple of amateurs and a handy cam!
Wasn't sure how the aero's would turn out as I wanted to be safely away from the other aircraft however they came out okay. I like the song lyrics, "I'm not crazy, just as I'm pulling into the loop ;D
Not sure when I'm going to be back down south again Gavin, I hardly get out of the circuit!
Guys if you get a minute, it's on Youtube...
Pop some comments and ratings on it. I'd love the rest of the Citabria world to see it and the best way for that is to get the vid rated etc.
If only.... I have a little time in Hornets, however my fighters experience was a bit like Oracle in the Americas Cup... "Hero to Zero" in the space of a week !
Still wouldn't trade a thing ;D
I have a heap of vid's that I'm starting to convert after the great response I got to the Citabria one.... so get ready to be bombarded
Fantastic video, Andrew. Hornets are pretty cool, but there's something nicer about the 'Bou.
By the way, I'm currently reading "Warden to Tanager" by David Wilson, about the RAAF ops in East Timor, and boy didn't 38SQN have some interesting experiences on some of those strips over there!
Remember landing at Los Palos with 20 or so South Korean Poli's.
Right to touch down they were looking for the paved international runway.... I was looking for surface water in the field !
It seemed okay until I touched down and took reverse, the whole windscreen disappeared in a muddy spray, I thought ru..row and yelled for full flap, took more and more power until the sinking stopped, we were now bouncing down this paddock at about 40-50kts.
I had to go for about 3000' until I hit a hardish patch, I managed to turn around however then I was miles away from the reception committee so I then had to gun it and get back to the other threshold.
Had I got stuck then that Bou would have stayed for months as the wet season had just started and there was not a tractor or truck within miles to get her out....
Ahhh the tales.. ;D

There's a photo in the book of some airfield with skidmarks on the clay surface from all the Caribou landings. I gather more than a few airstrips had long grass on them too, plus locals frequently crossing them as well!
