I have had my 20D and 30D for a while now so have decided to replace my 20D. I am looking at the following three cameras and wondering weather any of you guys use these cameras and could let me know what you think of them Ive got L lenses so am happy there but any advice I can get on these cameras would be great Cameras Im looking at are: EOS 5D EOS-1Ds Mark II EOS-1D Mark III At this stage Im looking at the 5D as it appears to be quite practicle for what I do apart from the 3fps but the other two cameras look very good.

We all have the same dilemma.
The 5D doesn't suit my style of photography. Too slow. 1Ds MkII, same problem.
But 1DMkIII.... now that's the clincher. 10 fps, 115 jpgs-30 RAW/burst . That's as fast as 1900s technolgy movies! The MkIII is lighter because of a better, smaller battery. It is still heavier than a 20D, in the order of 500g: 1300+ grams.
It also has live preview and the controls are much closer to 10/20/30/5D functions. I can secure one for $A5,834.00 cash via a Canon distributor. I just hope he has one available before the end of the month. I asked at a camera shop today and they have begun receiving supplies and sell them as fast as they can get them. It has a 1.3 sensor and auto cleaning.
Some pros maintain that the best thing is that the MkIII will lower the prioce of good used MkIIs.
I would be inclined to hold onto a 20D to use when a more compact camera is suitable.... like in the confined cockpit!
Cheers

Thanks Peter. Ive been doing some reading on the 1D MKIII and I do like that it still has a 1.3 crop factor and agree that 3fps is just to slow. Just getting used to the price at this stage.

You could buy a small African country for the amount of money you can spend on a good camera nowadays! I'm going to buy a Canon 1D - in about 2045, when they're $50 on Ebay.

I'd rather have a 1DMkIII than a small African country. Or even a large African country (except for the wildlife photographic opportunities).
Both will be past their"use-by-date" in 2045!

I have been using two 1DS MK II bodies since they came out and they are the best by far. I use them for both ground shots and all of my air to air stuff, helos and planes.

10fps, up to 115 jpeg and 30 RAW. That's insanely impressive!
