The bill must be horrendous. We were warned by control the other night that helicopters were active at Blenheim, just in case we missed at Wellington. Couldn't hear anyone on the radio though.

Excellent photos NZAV8A. Mum had mentioned she saw this happening on the TV news.
How many choppers were there in all?

Hard to tell exact numbers as they were operating from all over the place, defiantly 100+ We flew from 0230 until 0730, was an amazing sight seeing so many in one place and close proximity

Wow, 100+ is a lot. That must be a rich industry indeed to be able to afford such an amount of choppers. I didn't know there were that many in NZ!

The hills must have echoed with the sound of rotors, almost harking back to the days when the Moutere Valley echoed to the sound of Merlins keeping frost off the apples.

I was out taking photos and it was the most choppers I had seen for a while but vineyards are still growing at am alarming rate so I guess there will be more each year.

I take it the Squirrel is one of our most numerous helicopter types in New Zealand?

What chance of a good nights sleep in Blenheim that evening?

I can tell ya, when I got up for work that morning I thought I heard rain....or waves....or a train...but when I went outside I could discern individual choppers.
Continuous, low-volume but bassy thunder. Totally impressive!

Didnt see Ned, I think he might still be over seas. Where I live has vineyards all around and it was a sleepless night but the grape industry means a lot to Marlborough so its the price you pay and it only happens a couple of times a year and I dont mind as I get to go flying with some of these guys if Im lucky. I was up at 5.30am taking photos for a story so a tiring day, will take the day off next time I think.

Choppers were back a few days ago. 50 turned up, but the frost never really came to anything which is great for all of you wine lovers

Gees, that must be an expensive gamble, getting 50 choppers assembled and then no frost!
