Hi all Here are some pictures from Chek Lap Kok (hong Kong) I took a few days before Chrismas. Note how hazy it is! Some pictures did not turn out to well. Cathay Pacific A330 300 which is the work horse throughout Asia Orient Thai Airways MD80, there are dozens of these in the States and Europe. Hong Kong Express 737 800. A few New Zealand pilots fly for them as well as their sister airline, Hong Kong Airlines Air Canada A340 300 in Star clour scheme, JAL 747 400 in their new paint job Air India A310, Dragon Air A320 and Cathay Pacific 777 300ER

Great selection there
Is that haze just from 'general' pollution, or from bushfire smoke blown in from other SE Asian countries?

Hong Kong is often like that, often go visual with runway at 600ft because of haze. Probably a mix of everything creates the haze. The views are amazing on a clear day!

And probably producing those lovely red, white and blue poly-prop bags as well! ;D
How often do you fly into HK?

Interesting photos vs, thanks for sharing them. How close do aircraft get to the skyscrapers these days compared with the old flight path?

It is very different there now compared to Kai Tak! most of the approaches are over the sea although one does go over the city although it is pretty high. Kai Tak is still there although it is not used as an airport. I think they are looking at using it is a dock for cruise ships.
The new airport is amazing. Plenty of space inside the terminals. Easy access to them. I think all the gates with air bridges are able to take 747's...but dont hold me to that.
If you are looking for a holiday with a differance, Hong Kong is a great place. You can easily do day trips to Macau and China. Plenty to see and do in Hong Kong!

I visited Hong Kong in 1996 just prior to the British/Chinese handover. It was a nice country to visit, although it is generally polluted and hazy as in the photos above. Thanks for the photos VS
