Thanks 360joeflew but I'm not 'into' the crashes as such; although there are people who collect this footage (from former deck fireman job in Navy etc.) as a hobby so this URL has been passed on.
Trouble with Utube it promotes people to repost a clip that has already been posted elsewhere. Then this second clip is reprocessed by Utube and the quality diminishes ad infinitum. The PLAT footage of yesteryear is always going to be low quality, which Utube .FLV does not improve on the second or third reprocessing.
Yes the S2 'car wash' at the end is a classic. The camera angle probably makes it look worse than it was to those at deck level. But it is a hazard to be launched when the deck is going down into the 'greenies'. Ideally the launch - with delay - is timed so that the cat stroke starts as the bow is high (rather than low in this S2 instance). The FDO or launch officer will watch for the bow rise and fall rythmn to gauge how to proceed.
There are the odd stories of A4Gs being inavertantly launched on the downstroke with their wheels skating the water surface briefly.
