Nice to see the media mixing two different topics into one story. www.stuff.co.nz/4481659a11.htmlMain points:Air New Zealand and Qantas are reviewing their domestic and trans tasman fares, as the rising cost of aviation fuel continues to bite. Pacific Blue have no plans yet to alter fares but have announced additional trans tasman services with the introduction of thier additional 738, which is already seen the introduction of CHC-DUD services. WLG-BNE up to 5x week AKL-BNE & AKL-OOL will increase CHC-SYD & CHC-BNE +2 services a week

DUD is my home town Dunedin and OOL is I think coolongatta, just below gold coast.
738 is a new generation B737-800 about the same size as the old B737-400, we , well Air NZ operates B737-300 which is equal in size to the new generation B737-700

Thanks.
Will Pacific Blue eventually fly in and out of Hamilton?

I would guess that given time, Pac Blue will fly everywhere where there is an airliner with a koru on it's tail.

Lion Air Australia - another ULCC like Tiger - also from Asia but yet to start operating in Australia, they are partnering with one of the Queensland based regional's to get their AOC - I think from memory its Sky Air World or similar They will operate a fleet of 737-900's and have already signalled they will operate on the Tasman

B737-900's would be abit big for the trans tasman I would think. There is quite a few there now fighting for a share of that maeket and to get that share, people are looking at cheap prices and to do that means bums on seats which means cheap prices. Ok the more seats you have in a plane the more people you can fit in but I think it would be more economical to operate a smaller a/c full than a larger capacity a/c 1/2 full

I agree with you on the size of the a/c since Lion have stated they prefer the secondary airports to the major centres ... not sure Palmerston North, Hamilton, Dunedin etc have the traffic volumes that would make the 900 economic ... although Lion Air seem to have reasonibly deep pockets so I'm sure they'll be able to sustain losses for the first few years or so.
Some quick research provides confirmation that they are partnering with SkyAirWorld and they will launch with 6 B737-900ER's
