In the general demographic of NZ homebuilders I'm probably one of the younger ones, however 12 year Andrew Parsons will shortly be starting construction of a Volksplane VP2, which would probably put him into the running as NZ's youngest homebuilder. Andrews dad Paul is a good mate of mine and is e technology teacher at Wintec, and he will oversee everything, and he reckons the VP2 is simple enough for Andrew (who has a practical bent) to build quite cheaply and easily. The VP2 in many ways is just like a big model!. Andrew has helped me put fabric on my last wing over the school holidays, and is really keen to get started on his own machine. Its should be a great "father - Son" project. CAA regulations do not specify a minimum age for a builder, providing the work is a suitable standard. There have been a number of School - based projects completed by NZ high Schools (Rangi ruru Girls high, St Pauls collegiate Hamilton and Otamatea college in Northland) and in the '60s a number of teenagers completed turbulents etc, but I am not aware of anyone younger building a hombuilt. To satisfy Andrew's query, does anyone else know whether there has been a younger homebuilder?
gee I wish someone helped me build an aeroplane when I was that age.....

Gee, that seems awfully young to be doing something like this. Especially when I look at some of the model planes I made a mess of when I was 12. Good luck to him, and please get him to post updates here.
