Since changing my job role at work I have been flying around the country a lot with Air NZ and the crews have been great. The last few days especially have been tough due to terrible weather conditions in parts of the North Island. Aircraft have been delayed quite a bit due to this but the crews have kept smiling and getting on with business. Top notch flying with Wellington being challenging as usual. Air NZ is our major Airline and sometimes a company in that position can let customer service standards slip but I can only say that it has been great dealing with great people.
In todays society some choose to highlight negative issues and not mention good experiences but thanks to Air New Zealand for making the past two weeks a good experience.

The other day I was checked in to fly to Auckland for a check. Flights were being cancelled or delayed due to fog all morning by all the airlines. Even your 'Fast Post' was affected.
I watched as everyone shuffled down to the Air NZ desk to get alternatives sorted. The first 50 or so managed to get seats on later flights. The rest were told that there were no more seats until 4PM. Fine I thought, you buy the ticket on the conditions that go with it. Cancellation = no refund. Not likely to happen really, but it did happen.
Some people went beserk, using language and tones that can only be described as immature and improper. Most of these were businessmen. The Air NZ staff handled them with professionalism and calmness. I wouldv'e told them where to go myself, but that's why I dont check people in I guess ;D
On the down side, they have managed to lose my baggage three times in the last four sectors I have flown with them.
However, despite being bagless at times, I agree with you Gavin in general. The cabin crews are magnificent, the pilots do a good job, and the check in people are friendly and professional as well.
