Yesterday at the Hobsonville Old Boys Reunion, secretary Peter Burch gave an update of latest happenings at Motat, as he works there as a volunteer. A question was asked about the media's handling of the 'arson' fire in which media outlets alleged a hangar had been destroyed.
He said he was on the scene as soon as he heard about the fire, and he said the reports were totally wrong. He said there were some local kids hanging out and were cold, so they started a fire in a drum. For some reason it spread, and they themselves tried to extinguish it. It was the kids themselves who called the fire brigade too! From what he said it was totally accidental, not arson. He also said the railway carriage that was destroyed was as far away from the hangars as could possibly be.
How can the media be so careless as to get the reporting so wrong, when someone directly involved as Peter was could tell such a different story?

How can the media be so careless as to get the reporting so wrong Never let the facts get in the way of a good story .... sometimes a disturbingly accurate comment when the media gets involved
