Hi,
Any thoughts out there on what would be the best kits to build a late-version RNZAF UH-1H from, in both 1/48 and 1/32-35, please?
I'm guessing that if a UH-1H isn't available, conversion from a 'D' would be possible? Is there much involved in that, please?
Thanks in advance,
Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian
For large scale Huey's, Revell 1/32 scale if you can find them.
I know they certainly had the UH-1D and also in different guises medivac etc (same model ) I believe Revell Germany put out a UH-1H also same scale and hard to find.
Dragon have released a 1/35 scale UH-1H, so you may need to check your local model shop
Italeri has done a 1/35 UH-1D
1/48 scale: I think from memory, Academy did one, Italeri did a1D as did Hasegawa but now OOP
Differences between 1D and 1H:
1) Different engine: Lycoming T53-L-13 engine of 1,400 shp (1D's had T53-L-11 engine)
2) pitot tube relocated from the nose to the roof, to reduce ground damage
3) Minor electrical changes
As I understand it all RNZAF 1D's were eventually upgraded to UH-1H status
There may be subtle changes in RNZAF UH-1's that others may know of
Hope that helps
Regards
Alan

I have the Revell Germany UH-1H, partly built for many years. I actually built it then decided to add more detail and dismantled it, and that's as far as I got. It's an old kit but a very good representation andgood starting point. The seats are nothing like the real things, someething that I was replacing in my update.
I think Esci made a very good 1/48th Huey from memory.
One recent mod I have noticed on the RNZAF Iroquois is a black matting type thing added to the air intakes. Someone here may be able to explain it further.

Thanks for your help guys, I must admit, I thought there would have been more replies from more Huey experts out there. .. I guess I'll have to build it first, post photos and then find out what I should have done!! Thanks, Ian

I have built the Kiwi Wings kit as well and it is a pretty good starting point.
I used photos of the one that came to Middle WallopAir day for the correct aerial fit. I added the Whirleybird bladder tank and deecals, from which you can do just about any RNZAF Huey.
