Guys can you help
I am modelling 1/72 DH115 and T11 vampires
What was the general cockpit colour was it black or grey?
Ejector seats, cushions and harness were what colour?
Did the pilots wear flight suits or just overalls in those days?
Bone domes were coloured or just green
By the way you guys make amazing models in all scales, hope to try some vac forms soon.

Biggels, I think bone domes were generally silver in those days. As for flying suits, they wore a sort of blue-grey flying suit. These are the 'pilots' in the RNZAF Museum's Atrium, and the chap with his back to camera is from the Vampire era Someone else may have a photo of him from the other side. As for inside the cockpit, I am not sure.

From my days with the RAN Vampire T11 this Swedish Vampire photo looks accurate - except for the red wires and ejection seat is not totally the same - but colours and general wear and tear are good:

This is the Temora NSW RAAF Trainer Vampire with obvious modern additions. However the colours of the front instrument panel are accurate along with the red speedbrake handle for example:

files.filefront.com/RAN+Vampire+Venom+10jun07pdf/;7741190;/fileinfo.htmlHere is a 206Mb PDF about the RAN Vampire and Sea Venom. I can make a smaller 'Vampire only' version if you are interested. Let me know. Phil. BTW the Vampire helmet was several layers of cardboard covered with silver paint. Inside this helmet was some webbing to keep the cloth inner helmet from scratching the inside and provide a cushion. This cloth helmet had the radio earphones. Thank goodness helmet technology improved. :-)

You do know that those manequins in the atrium are the RNZAF's answer to the Madam Tusaud's? That is Graeme Goldsmith in the A4 kit, cant remember off the top of my head who the other three are......

You do know that those manequins in the atrium are the RNZAF's answer to the Madam Tusaud's? That is Graeme Goldsmith in the A4 kit, cant remember off the top of my head who the other three are...... All of the museum's mannequins were based upon real people from Base Wigram (except the boy who posed for the ATC mannequin in 1991 who was a real ATC cadet). I had thought that the pilot you mention was David Crooks but now that you say it's Graeme Goldsmith it makes more sense. The Skyhawk pilot, sitting in the A-4K in the atrium, is Cpl John Harris, Safety and Surface, who was the guy who made all the mannequins. They poured moulds from real faces. It was apparently a great honour to be selected to pose, and people from all trades were done over the years. I don't know if they've done any more mannequins since John retired.

Sniff, I have a landline phone only for the internet. I never answer the phone because the calls are only surveys or call centres. Anyone who wants to communicate with me via "phone" has to use e-mail. Years ago I was ahead of me time but today I'm only an old fogey. SMS? Mobile Phone? Wot? ;D ... --- ... Sorry to mislead you earlier (in a hurry as always) my SOS (Save Our Souls) was mistyped and not proofread. iT should have read DIT DIT DIT DAH DAH DAH DIT DIT DIT. And I can do semaphore too. And touch type a million miles a minute. My biggest problem. Engaging my brain before typing SHRUDLU - QWERTYUIOP.
