Some of the registrations carried on aircraft in NZ now and in the past had double meanings. I wonder if we can list a few here.
ZK-MAD and ZK-NUT are obviously not just standard regos, but also refer to the type of flying they do. Very cool.
I remember Sir Tim Wallis's Corsair was ZK-FUI as it was the closest he could get to F4U-1, and his P-40K had a rego of ZK-PXL as XL is the Roman Numeral for 40.
There's the Bay Flight fleet which is a family of aircraft" ZK-DAD ZK-MUM ZK-SIS ZK-BRO ZK-POP ZK-NAN ZK-KID (destroyed in a crash)
P-51D Musang ZK-TAF of course refers to the Territorial Air Force.
Any others?

There are dozens (hundreds?) Some are obvious, like ZK-NAC, the first National Airways 737 or ZK-WMT - Wayne Matthews Thorpe. However with quite a few you have to know - the Bell-Air, Whakatane, Aero Commander was ZK-PAT in honour of the owner's wife. I'd still like to know the significance of ZK-MJL the Salt-Air Cessna Caravan - anyone?

And when my Sis was a hostie with ANZ they reckoned that ZK-NBG stood for "No Bloody Good". Which presumably explains why it has never been used.

Just rang for clarification, I just remembered the the story as NBG = "No bloody Good" but the whole series was "No bloody .......", so if they had gone with NBG it would have been "No Bloody Good", the others were such things as "no bloody engines", "no bloody departure (time)", "no bloody arrival (time)" etc. It all boils down to the fact that Trans Tasman was (I don't Know if it still is) covered by domestic cabin staff and made for a long day (Oz and Back) and the return flight always seemed to take for ever. This is all part of what people have been doing for a long time with aircraft registrations, making up phrases and words to fit the reg. e.g ZK-DXI at North Shore was always known as "Dixie" (the 172 that is , I don't know about the current Cherokee).
