It's my guess that those words were spoken to P/O Cam (Carr?) on 30-9-44 when he landed after flying NZ 1247 back from the Rakaia low flying area with this unauthorised mod on his port wing. These are just two of many photos that I rescued from a rubbish bin so I guess they should be credited to the RNZAF Museum. I'll post some more of other "oops" moments at a later date.

Yikes, that looks like one lucky pilot to get back to the station. Great photos Shorty, thanks for sharing them.

I wonder what became of the pilot, and if he even finished his course. I guess when we hear the words low flying area we automatically think 'uh-oh, hi-jinks caused this" but it would be interesting to know the real circumstances.

Those Canterbury Nor-westers can really blow some big rocks around; and you wouldn't want to hit those in an aeroplane! ;D
