Made a wallpaper for myself using a skin I just finished for IL2 and thought I would share. If anyone wants something similar i happy to try NZ5393 of No25Sqn 4 SU landing at Mokerang airfield, Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands

Nice work there. I know that the IL2 is the Ilyushin Stormovik ground attack aeroplane from World War Two. Is it the name of a game?

Great work, that looks really neat. You never read much about Mokerang airfield. Have you got any more details?
I wonder, did any pilots from no. 25 Squadron's Dauntless days carry on with the squadron when it converted to Corsair fighters?

Me thinks our Corsairs had the arrestor hook removed.

Great work - agree. I wonder if such a Flight Sim would be useful for oil/water colour painters to get the perspective of their aircraft correct? It seems for them this is the most difficult aspect. I would not know where to start but thanks to 'phas3e' I can see the possibilities. 'phas3e' do you work in Flight Simulator also? I have pinched this graphic from Sean Galbraith's website to illustrate my point. With FlightSim aircraft and realistic Google Earth scenery one can recreate a realistic viewpoint to then start work painting. OR keep it as a CGI or whatever.

Cheers guys IL2 is the flight sim I took the original screen from, it has over 200 flyable WW2 aircraft and as a combat sim its second to none. You can pick up copies of IL2:1946 from EB games for like $35, it has all versions of the game on one DVD. I doubt I have any info on that you guys wouldnt already have on Mokerang airfield, I havnt really studied RNZAF bases in the pacific. True about the tail hook, I hadn't thought of deleting it in photoshop (its in game and cant be removed) But I should be able to sort it out, cheers for the tip. No I never got into FS I have 2004 but all the playing around to get it looking good played on my attention span Plus I enjoy getting shot at Though Screenshots are becoming quit viable as aviation art www.screenshotworld.com/forum/index.php?&&CODE=autologin&fromreg=1Stand by for an updated (hookless) pic

Thanks for the link to the screamshiteworld :-) (I got that past the censor). What you have done with the Corsair and Photoshop has made all the difference. Just a screenshot by itself is only the start point. I was thinking that not only for computer art but for a real world painter who could use the screenshot (with good aircraft perspectives and scenery) to paint an example rather than rely on whatever methods used otherwise that don't always produce a realistic result. Same as a screenshot. Good work on the Corsair. IL2 is a great game but I moved on to LOMAC (Lock On Modern Air Combat) but I don't get into the missions just free fly the example missions for fun. I await the day when a good flightsim for the Skyhawk arrives such as Thunderworks at: www.thunder-works.com/news.htmScreenshot city there but Argentine unfortunately and older model Skyhawks but it does look good visually. Forgot to mention I really like 'Pacific Fighters' from the same stable but the quality of the screen perhaps may not be as good as IL2? I have forgotten. Anyway that may be a chance to have a Corsair in the Pacific eh. ;D

Yes a dramatic angle which makes the graphic I reckon.

FlyNavy, is the A-4 piccie an accurate representation for the right glide path into NAS?

No, it is just a screenshot probably taken with no particular glideslope in mind. Depending on distance accounting for zoom lens effect it might look like the start of a GCA (before getting on glideslope) after descending under radar control and then dirtying up before GCA. In daylight with the aid of the portable mirror it is possible to start a straight in approach high and then get onto glideslope. A visual approach from that position is also possible with engine RPM low to get down quickly from this straight in. As I say it looks like just a screenshot without regard for the correct approach. Personally I would not pay attention to the lights on the end of the runway for this sim whatever they are. Best to use 'look of the runway' IMHO. ;D
Another scenario might be an LPA Low Precautionary Approach but likely a bit high for that. One would have to assume that the aircraft in the Flight Simulator is on approach and it may not be. The ZOOM effect of moving the POV can make a big artificial difference in Flight Simulator to how things look.

Wish you could fly the b-17 on IL-2 or the b-29. Great screenshot of the corsair! Sounds good about the skyhawks on this other game, I might have to go buy it now!

Microsoft Flight Simulator Ten (or X as it is seen) known as FSX has been out for a few years - the very last in the series of Microsoft Flight Simulator titles because last month Microsoft sacked the entire team responsible for FSX.
Accelerator is a Microsoft Add On for FSX. Nowadays most places sell only FSX + Accelerator included in a bundle - often it is called FSX Gold. A good recent computer is required, but that has always been the case for the latest Ms Fsim. There are not many freeware or even payware titles for FSX because apparently it is too hard. More will appear over time now that the developers know that FSX is the end of the line. Not a lot of Fsim 2004 models work well or at all in FSX sadly.
Flight Sim 2004 is not bad but it is worthwhile to get FSX + Accelerator (one update will be required). Install FSX - update to Service Pack 1 - install Accelerator (which has SP2 in it). Also update to the latest November 2008 Direct X (also can be updated online).
