I was reading through one of the very early threads on this board and I came across this statement: But there has to be some doubt over how fast the prop was turning. Perhaps it was just beginning to turn over (they were started by electric starters on trucks by the way, no man could swing one of those props Well Dave, I don't want to ruin another myth but here is a photo of an erk being instructed in the gentle art of starting a Pegasus. Please note the specified head gear for working around wind producing devices! Notice also the external fuel tank, when I was part of the MOTAT team scouring the North Island for Vilde parts we actually found one of these tanks under the dance floor of the Oriental Ballroom in Symonds St Auckland! Also note there is no Huck starter dog on the prop boss!

What a superp photo.
I don't recall which thread you refer to but if I did say that, it was when I was young and stupid. I believe they cranked the handle to wind up an inertia flywheel, which when it was engaged turned the prop through, right? And then the starter was pushed.
