Does anyone know what the Unattached List was? I have a cutting which gazettes a number of Territorial Air Force pilots who were being put into the Unattached List around about August 1938.
Did this mean they no longer needed to attend parades but would be called on if war erupted? Because many of them did join up for RNZAF regular service in 1939.

Dave,
I recall that this was a "pool" of territorial officers that were not specifically "Attached" to any particular RNZAF unit. Most of the TAF pilots were officially posted (Attached) to a TAF unit for establishment purposes. They were in effect Reservists available for call-up and mobilisation

Thanks Paul. That helps a lot. I had been wondering why data says that Ron Sinclair was in the NZAF/TAF from 1933-1939 but he is not mentioned at all in the Wellington Territorial Squadron days in records I've looked at. But suddenly on the 4th of September 1939 he took over the squadron. I wondered why he suddenly slotted in like that, but apparently he must ahve been a non active TAF member. There are a number of famous names on that list being posted to the unattached list. Almost all were in the regualr RNZAF after Sept 39.
