Defence personnel to join US Nursing Ship NZPA | 01 August 2008 12:34pm Eight Defence Force personnel will join the United States Nursing Ship (USNS) Mercy to provide medical support to the people of Papua New Guinea, Defence Minister Phil Goff said today. "The Defence Force personnel will undertake shipboard surgical procedures and primary health care activities around Port Moresby," Mr Goff said. "They will be working alongside military medical personnel from 13 other nations." The USNS Mercy has three operating theatres, 50 ward beds and laboratory, radiology and pharmacy services.
