well, the cowlings are painted but still awaiting the Southco Fasteners - hopefully they'll be in in the next day or 2. I havent had the cowls fitted since painting so there's a part of me that wants to see what it looks like!
I have had some delays with the exhaust pipe set up in that the pipes are Mandrel bent, and Coby Manufacturing, who do the bending fit it in around thier other work, so lead times run long... Unfortunately the first concept didnt fit the space available so I had to get some more pipes bent up to suit the revised idea, which took a bit of working out in order to ensure sufficient clearance of the coolant pipes.
I have filled the engine with the various fluids and turned it over on the starter to get oil pressure, however I need to replace some fossilised gaskets in the fuel strainer (a second hand part) before putting some gas in and trying to start it. It wont be taken above idle as I cant get it out of the shed, and running up aircraft inside is bad practice (despite the TSB ads!) - I dont want all the crap in my workshop sucked through the prop!
I'm getting the last exhaust pipe tacked together in the next couple of evenings and may test fit the cowls to check clearances before sending the pipes off for final welding, so I'll try and get some more photos soon.
PS. the aircraft wont be at Raglan - too much to do (including organising a fly - in and finishing upgrading the SAA web page) but it wont be far away after that....
