I have just had a chance to watch a new DVD release made by Bruce Salmon of Auckland called 'Spitfire MK V BL628 - THE RETURN OF MARION'.
You may recall Bruce as last year his beautiful model of Bryan Cox's Corsair was seen here on the forum.
This DVD contains a 54 minute film that follows the restoration and return to flight of the Mk Vc Spitfire that was restored by Avspecs at Ardmore and took flight last year.
Bruce was there to capture several stages of assembly and also the engine tests and test flights, plus the awesome low display that John Lamont put on in her at Ardmore. Now I know why everyone was raving over that display!
The film is narrated by Andy Hosking, who was one of the main engineers that saw the final restoration of this aircraft, and he gives a lot of really fascinating inside knowledge of the Spitfire in general and the restoration of this airframe.
Also on the disc is an excellent collection of photos covering the restoration and test flying phases, from photographers well known to the forum - Gavin Conroy, Colin Hunter and Kerry Carlyle.
This DVD is an excellent record of a wonderful time in the NZ warbird industry. It is available in all DVD regions, is in 4:3 ratio widescreen, and is available to buy from Bruce Salmon directly at the bargain price of:
Price is NZ$20.00 plus $3.00 for P&P within NZ

My final word, this is a very good film that records the culmination of a 25 year restoration of a rare Mk V Spitfire, the first to ever fly in New Zealand. I recommend this to all Spitfire fans, fans of the NZ warbird industry, and to modellers too as there is a lot of detail of this very original Spitfire seen.
