This is the Union Airways Hudson Mk.IIIA trainer (ex.NZ2079). What I would like to know is, where was the photo taken, it does not look like Rukuhia or Asplins (not to me anyway)?

ZK-AHY is listed as "Restored RNZAF 18Dec46 as NZ2079" Given that it was a crew trainer at Milson, and obviously saw no later RNZAF service after it's civil role, how about Palmerston North? Mind, the aircraft was eventually "Sold 9May49 Mr J Asplin ex-Rukuhia"!

Very interesting. It still has its windows intact so probably not Rukuhia.
When the records say it was a crew trainer for Union, was that as a flyable aircraft or did they borrow it simply as a fuselage for emergency exit training?

I wonder how they managed to rig up controls for a co pilot. That aeroplane looks amazing now in the museum

Looking at the drop tank lying against the hedge makes one think that it would be Rukuhia.

I wonder how they managed to rig up controls for a co pilot. The Hudsons had kits for a second set of controls. The first one arrived in NZ in 1941 shortly after the first batch of Hudsons and they then got local manufacturers to copy the kit and produce more. Several of the Hudsons were fitted to become dual pilot trainers for conversion to type on squadron (remembering that many of the pilots who converted to them in 1941-42 in NZ had never flown a cabin aircraft or a monoplane twin before - a lot of them went straight on from Vincents and Vildes, no Oxford in between! So this probably had one of the dual kits fitted I guess. Which museum? This aircraft no longer exists to my knoweledge, sadly.
