I just saw an advert on the TV Central channel for the Kiwanis club and there was a really old style glider on it, like from the 1940's or so. It was red and white and flying close to the ground. I only glanced up and saw it for a split second. There was a kid with a model glider in another shot. Has anyone else seen the ad? I wonder where it was filmed.

As you say, a very brief glimpse.
It looked to me like one of the venerable Schweizer designs that dates back to the 1940's. Either an SGU 19 single seater or an SGU 2-22 two-seater. Both out of production for many years now. The 2-22 was a popular trainer for a long time and many of them are still flying in the hands of US vintage glider enthusiasts.
