From December 1940 till November 1941 a monthly magazine was produced by a small group of airmen for the personnel of RNZAF Stations Whenuapai and Hobsonville. I have one issue, the January 1941 edition, and it's a really excellent read. They are a slice of the social history of the two nearby Auckland stations. Judging from my copy they probably are all similar in content and include short stories, jokes, cartoons, charicatures of well known people on the two stations, news, sports results, messages from commanders, photos and adverts from businesses that supported the magazine. Of particular interest to me is my copy has a few items about or mentioning the New Zealand General Reconniassance Squadron, which at that time had just changed its name to No. 1 (GR) Squadron. That info is really vital for my research into these GR squadrons. I have been trying to track down other issues for ages. Some have come up on TradeMe recently but I've missed out, or the auctions have gone mad and are far too much for me to afford. Does anyone out there have any issues other than the one I have? if so, would it be possible to get a photo copy, scan or digital photos of the magazines, please? Alternately does anyone know of any libraries or archives that have these magazines? Thaks. Here's my webapge on the magazine (Rod no longer has his copies sadly). www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/The%20Airman.htm#Air
