For 1/72 scale excessive!!!
I managed to pick up at my favourate hobby store a 1/32 Sea Venom for about 10 bucks more than the F 18.
Some times Trademe prices cause me to look else where, on occasion you get a good deal, picked up a Short Sunderland (really old) for $20 just recently. ;D

I would say the prices are towards the high end, but not excessive. They are brand new kits, and on a rough basis of the size and complexity of the kits it seems realistic. I have purchased kits from the same trader, and its important to realise this is new stock, essentially from a model shop, rather than someone selling off thier collection. The Good thing about TradeMe and eBay is that whatever it sells for is the real value of the item - It is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. having been into rare kits myself, I often pay substantially more than what this seller is asking, for substantially poorer kits. My Boeing 727 was nearly $200.00, and my Singapore Vacform (which was very basic!) about $140.00. It depends on whether anyone else wants the kit as well! I have got some awesome bargains in the past, such as the job lot of kits I mentioned on the DH50 thread - about $40.00 for the lot (about 20 kits)

I've found that seller to have items for slightly higher than retail, but given he geographical location may need to cover his costs. remember also, that on top of the bid price, you still need to pay postage, meaning if you can get to a hobby shop, you will pick these up cheaper, but the Revell kits are costing more - note too, that the Lightning is the old Hasegawa/Frog kit and the F-18 is the Italeri kit.

Does TradeMe charge sellers high fees?

I've sold items and the fee's aren't that much, the cost of postage is actually seperate. i.e I sold a Fujimi 1/72 Phantom which cost $15 and postage was $3 ($5 usually standard for a kit depending on size or weight).
I've noted this seller is rather high pricing wise, has a relatively good selection though. I reckon the location and being a specialist store has some say in it too since New Plymouth doesn't have a designated model outlet.
Albiet in saying that some people have no idea on pricing, seen a 1/72 Academy Ju-87G for $40 whereas is only cost $15-$19 RRP

Fair points everyone. I can understand the need to cover costs, and have no idea what Revell's RRP is at the moment. ButI think the Lightning in particular is massively overpriced, be that RRP or sellers. I bought the Hasegawa boxing for a little more than half that not too long ago, after ordering it through a shop. If it were a new mould then the price would be more reasonable, but it is not. It is a 1960's mould with very basic detail and a few accuracy issues. I think Trumpeter is bringing out a new moulding in the near future, and it will be interesting to see what that sells for. As for the Hornet, by the time you add P+P, that is a $50 model. For a 1/72 single seat jet? I had a look around and the Tamiya boxing of that kit is available from MC+H online for less than half that. I just feel that unsuspecting or naive buyers could wind up spending way way more than they need to here, and I don't like it. Still, if people will pay for it, then I guess that is what it's worth eh!
