Were any of the 180s get modified back to the conventional format after they finished their days as topdressers? Absolutely, as an example BUG in the pictures above is currently in immaculate condition as a private aircraft (Owned by Hunter McEwan from memory) and is regularly seen all over the country at 180 club fly - ins. I've worked on BUG and possibly BYJ as well during thier non - Ag lives. Close examination of BUG nowadays reveals a slightly non - standard arrangement of the top cabin skins, and some extra formers and framing under the cabin floor. Owners of ex- Ag 180s do have to carry out additional inspections of the leaf spring undercarriage legs (if they are known to have been fitted during the Ag ops) due to additional stresses from that time - Ag and skiplane legs are identifiable by being a little thicker than the original standard legs.

Yes, 180 ZK-BUJ was a Rural a/c that I flew for several hundred hours in The South Island based in Timaru in the early sixties on topdressing but mostly on spraying. Still have a few photos tucked away showing it in the spray gear configuratio. I then got a brand new 185 CCB. BUJ eventually was restored back to original configuration and was owned by a fellow in Tapanui. I attended a Rural reunion and Met the owner and once more got to fly my old favorite 180. What a thrill that was to be able to fly it once again. Allan

I do have some photos stashed away. Will sort through them all. My scanner is not working at the moment but will get that fixed up. Some are in color and some in black and white. Allan

Yes I did. Flew for Laurie Greenwood for a couple of months flying 180 BMW mostly rabbit poisoning around Omarama. Then went to James for a spell and then got on with Nac Eventually back to Canada. Allan

Due to the need to actually finish something in the modelling section (1/32 BOF is my major project, however I haven't actually finished anything other that a NZ Unimog in the last 18 months) I pulled the base painted Cessna out of the back of the display case and started reworking some of it.
A few articles in SAM magazine on Bird Dogs and 180's have given me some good tips on how to improve the scale accuracy of this model, so I might give it a shot.
I today restripped the doors, have started removing the oversize hinges and lugs (it actually looked to 'toy like' how I had it) and am doing some plastic surgery on the incorrect cowl (well for NZ examples anyway).
BOF will still be on the table though, I spent the whole of the last week working on the supplementary under cowl continental oil filter... great but it feels like nothing has got done on a final level. Am waiting on very slow post from the UK with some parts as well.
The latest SAM shows a lovely 'Aussie' army C180 in early Vietnam FAC guise. This is the 1/72 Khee Kha kit in vac form. It looks quite good and easy enough for those unfamiliar to vac forming to work on. Might make a good kiwi example for someone.
Back to the plane now...

The 72th vac model sounds like a bit of me. Iwas fortunate to have been working in a hangar frequented by 180s and 185s when I painted the engine of my Revell 180, still not sure if I want to make it an Aussie military ship - Vietnam is a favorite subject of mine - or a top dresser....keen to see your progress Mike, as well as BOF.

Hi Flyjoe, I still haven't finished this one, I am modifying the cowling to look more realistic and to also have the 'sunken' airscoop rather than the chin scoop.
