Running through some older posts, came across this one.
Norfolk Is was one option for crossing the ditch. Hobart was another. If winds favourable, direct was ok too.
I did one trip to Singapore to display '81 at Asian Aerspace 86. Flew Chch - Norfolk - Amberley, Amberley - Darwin, Darwin - Bali - Changi. Return Changi - Bali - Darwin, Darwin - Alice Springs - Edinburgh, Edinburgh - Hobart - Chch - Wigram. On this trip, Air New Zealand completed an engine change the night before departure, and the aircraft was test flown the morning we left.

Somewhere I have some drawings of one of the schemes, and when I can get to the other house, I'll have a look.
I have a photo of "83 over the Kaikouras, presented to me when I retired. No winged warrior on the tail. Will have a closer look soon.

Ok I may be out on a limb here. I recall saying on one of these threads that the three RNZAF F-27 were never completely identical for the first 4 or 5 years of their service. That would be true of the custom RNZAF installation, I know NZ2782 had a switch above the Captain that the other two never had. I was referring to their external markings and colours though. (Apart from the number sequence).. Anyway I was reasonably sure NZ2781 had the City Council crest immediately ahead of the entry door. The old man in me said it was behind the Captains window. A younger man would say... 'but isn't the entry door at the rear?'. Ooops Cheers to Steve Lowe and 3rd Level Blogspot for kicking me in the head. 3rdlevelnz.blogspot.co.nz/2012/10/25-years-ago-october-1987-exercise-wise.html

Yes it could be a zap, a smudge on the screen, or even a birdstrike but my $1000 tells me it is the CCC Coat of Arms. Any takers ?

I love reviving old threads with a bit of interest to me - having served on NATTS for 2 and a half years. Here is one taken on a Wise Owl based at Paraparaumu in 1986 I'll figure the exact date out later. RNZAF of course. Wise Owl Paraparaume 1986 by Les Billcliff, on Flickr That's me behind the Airtrainer (well head and ankles anyway), and behind the tail, one of the groundies whose name escapes me, and Phones Hedifen, pilot.

I've got a patch off my zoombag that is similar to the first one of those. Must see if I can find it.

In accordance with ABO's one of each type of aircraft based at an RNZAF Station/Base could carry the coat of arms of the city associated with it. In this case NZ2781 is carrying the Christchurch crest. When I was at Wigram in the late 1970s I alerted the Base Commander to this order and crests were then applied to an Airtrainer and then the F27

Were such crests ever worn on Auckland based aircraft Paul? Hercules, Orion, Andover, Huey, Sioux, etc?

Hi Dave, in the earlier days 1950s/60s there were Dakotas?, Devons and Hastings with crests, but I cannot recall any of the newer mid 60s aircraft; C130,P3 or later carrying them.

I don't recall ever seeing it either. A crest would look nice on one of the Texan II's, but I'd hate to see it on any of the low viz camouflaged aircraft, especially the Harvard.

Dave, I have emailed you two pics, one of a devon NZ1821 and freighter NZ5906 both carrying crests. I now remember that before the freighters were camo'd in 1969, the whenuapai 3BSS/3 squadron ones carried the auckland crest
