Cow survives being hit by biplane New 8:28AM Thursday Dec 18, 2008
LONDON - A British pilot says he may paint a cow on the side of his aircraft to mark the moment his biplane clipped one during an emergency landing.
Rob Wotton was trying to land his Tiger Moth plane after a loss of power in a field in Devon, about 260km southwest of London, in September. A herd of cows was watching, and one wandered into his path.
An onboard video camera - the footage of which has been posted on YouTube - captures the moment the plane hits the cow, with the bovine rolling away. But Wotton said on Wednesday that the brown-and-white cow got up and started grazing.
While the cow was apparently uninjured, the aircraft was not. An Air Accidents Investigation Branch report says there was substantial damage to the vintage two-seater plane.
