Hi all, Just back from a month in South America. I was able to get to a great aviation museum in Santiago which appeared to be on a military airbase. It was closed for cleaning on the Monday when I arrived but they very kindly opened it up for me! The displays inside were in beautiful condition and those outside were pretty good as well. Have more pics if you want plus hopefully pictures from a Peru Airforce base to come! B26 IMG]http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff255/boeingman/peru157.jpg[/IMG] PBY in amazing condition! P47 Kingfisher T43, note the clear perspex on sides...this would maybe be a good thing to do with one of the skyhawks at the airforce museum Mirage 5BR Really nice B18 USAF F4 Recently finnished DC3, Hunters Miles Hawk? Looks like a great museum, is that a Bucker under the Catalina's wing?

More please. Is that the same museum where Sir Tim Wallis's Corsair ended up at?

That certainly is a Bucker under the Cat's wing. It really was a very nicely presented museum. There were a few storage areas with more DC3's, C130, 707 and BAC 111. Tim's Corsair ended up in a museum near Sao Paulo, Brazil. It is owned by the guys who either owned or started the airline TAM which is now largest airline in Brazil, maybe even South America.

Great photos of a very nice collection. Love the P-47 - what a hulking machine they are.

I think the SE5 and 504 may have been real. Everything was in Spanish

Apparently the SE.5a and Avro 504K were built for the museum by AJD Engineering (aka Hawker Restorations) in the UK.

Just how many Hunters do they have? Lots by the look of things. What a great museum. And very nice photos.

I saw about 6 Hunters. The one in front of the Mirage is mint! Behind the row of Hunters you can see the Andes. The Chile airforce Hunters have I believe, been used in anger. More pics to come!

What an interesting mix of aircraft and a really well kept museum. I even spy what seems to be a Pterodactyl in the rafters in this image.

Looks like they care for their military aviation heritage really well. The F4 looks a bit unloved though.

That F27 almost looks like it is in the Air NZ paint scheme (the blue and green)
Looks like main wheels are off something else...look kind of small.
I also have a number of pictures from a Peru airforce base, but I need to get permission to post them

I'm guessing the Canberra PR.9 has a few interesting stories to tell.....IIRC the RAF sent one down to Chile during the Falklands War to recce the Argentines, then left it down there as a quid pro quo after the war. It was all very hush-hush at the time, along with the RN Sea King that happened to crash land in Chile after 'getting lost', rumour having it that a party of SAS was deposited in Argentina en route...

Jan 1 2014 Long Island NY. Saw some great shots of the Santiago air museum in Chile here, and I just returned from there after spending 45 days there from Sept and oct 2013. I have been to the museum 5 times now, and 7 trips to Chile, so I enjoy that place. I also travel with my son to many European countries, and definitely look for air museums when we go. If I can figure out how to post photos here, I will do it,but I have most of my recent ones in FlightAware now. Lots of changes in Santiago, like the Kingfisher is now painted black. The old 707 out back now is painted with LAN paint job but still needs work. The pics here in the site are great tho, and might be better than mine as they seem closer up. I have pics from Kiev and Bucharest lately, some from spain, but dont hve older stuff in my computer yet. It was good to see that someone else found the Chile museum. Anyway, I just joined this site and am in Warbirds site and a few others. Regards Paul 30 yrs Panam OPS Mgr. worked in JFK, ANC,WRI,FRA,SAL, and many other airports!!!!

Yep, terrific images and great to see this museum.
Yep, the acquisition of the three PR.9s is mysterious - little detail has been released on their activities in Chile. They were originally serialled XH166 - the one in the museum, XH167 and XH173 and were acquired after the Falklands War in October 1982, presumably to spy on the Argies.

Hi VS......I dont know where u are located, but since I am not sure yet how to post pictures here on this site and it seems complicated from what I see, If u care to email me and then I can email u some of my pictures I took last 2 years in Chile, not all of them as there are many, but if interested, my email is Panam1962@gmail.com, and I will gladly send u some stuff. I can then tell u how to see my pix which are in Flight aware too. Anyone else on this site that want to trade pictures using email, I will share them. rgds and you did a great job with your fotos and I did not have a great camera that had a wide angle etc, but my son is the real photographer and he was not on the trip with me this time in Chile. Also have pic from the Intrepid carrier in NYC , Corfu, Kiev, plus other airports and museums Paul/Clipper
