NZ3546/ZK-AWQ/D6-CAG was converted to PT6 turbine power while it was with the SAAF as 6863. It was sold as N81907 before becoming ZS-OJL in 2001. At Harewood July 1979: NZ3542/ZK-AQU/SAAF6858 and NZ3538/ZK-AQP/SAAF6846 were similarly converted. NZ3547/ZK-AZM/SAAF6865 and NZ3553/ZK-ERI/SAAF6871 appear to have retained their round engines. They were all sold to USA based dealers at the end of their SAAF service, only ZS-OJL and ZS-LJI (ex NZ3553/ZK-ERI/SAAF6871) seem to appeared later on the South African Civil Register.

Some very nice photos there and the Air 2 Air photo of the Yak 52 shows a very nice example of the type.

Bearcat, the adf.serials site lists last known whereabouts of ex-RNZAF Dakote NZ3542 (c/n 16386/33134; US number 44-76802) being at Wonderboom in 2002, and NZ3546 (c/n 16565/33313; or 44-76981) also being there at that time. NZ3547 (c/n 16730/33478; or 44-77146) was also there but not fluing in 2004. Any ideas whether these three Dakotas are still in South Africa and if any are still flying? Ex NZ3542 & NZ3547 have both been moved from Wonderboom Airport to "Freeway Airport" Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria. I have not seen them myself, but I am told that no work has taken place on them and that at best they could be described as "stored airframes" I hate to use the word derelict....because Daks have the habit of coming alive again if enough money is spent on them.

And now for something different... Osprey GP-4 ZU-CLC is currently being prepared to try and break Alex Henshaws London-Cape Town-London record that he established in the 1930's in the Percival Mew Gull. The record attempt is due to take place this May. There are not that many GP-4's around but I have noticed that there is at least one in NZ

Dagse Bruce (Bearcat)
As you must have seen we have a thread on the forum about a local L-29 over running a runway here. I assume you will have pics of the Sasol “Tigers” L-29’s. Not sure if they are still flying and if they are still sponsored by Sasol? I am sure the forum would find pics of the team interesting. (Just a thought?)

Thanks for the info Bearcat. It all gets a bit confusing when the same design has several name derivations.

This is one used for detecting large concentrations of metallic substances I presume? Or is it photographic survey?

Gee, look at how grubby it was. I assume it was not in service. It looks smaller without the roundels and markings.

Gee, look at how grubby it was. I assume it was not in service. It looks smaller without the roundels and markings. It was indeed operating in that condition and had flown into Rand for a respray. I will post some pics of it after its respray.

What happened to the other RNZAF 727? I know one of them was listed on eBay at one point.
