Regular users of the forum will have noticed that the forum headers have been changing a lot lately. As noted in a previous thread I've deciided to add a little variety to them and I asked for photos or artworks to add to the headers that reflect different aspects of NZ aviation, yesterday and today. A few members have contributed and I have over the past weeks put some of them up. Don't fear that they have come and gone too rapidly, I have them all saved in a special photobucket account and they will rotate round anso will all come back soon. At the moment they're rotaing quite rapidly just to show off the different ones we've got. I'd like to once again invite everyone to contribute interesting photos or artworks for this project. When I say artworks, it could be genuine paintings youve done, or it could be digital art (like Kenny's excellent helicopters over Auckland at night work; or my current colourised Electra photo), or it could be a screen shot form some of the better FlightSims. People like Naki and Stu have posted some great ones in the past, keep them coming for the header project. And if your header goes up, tell the story of the photo or artwork here in this thread. It's a great way to share info too. I'd meant to express my appreciation for the helicopters over Auckland one, very nice.
The Electra is also very good. Am I right in thinking that Lesley is related to Phil?

I'm not sure on whether Lesley's related to Phil, but her Dad was in No. 8 GR Squadron and No. 30 Squadron, and she's sent me some great photos that will eventually go onto the 30 Sqn website.
I reckon Kenny's nightscape artwork is really neat, it has a dark moody feel about it. It will be back sooner or later. The Electra is a little more sunny.

Yes, they're all Gavins, used with his kind permission and cobbled together very quickly last night by me to celebrate the big weekend. After I get back (if I get back) from Omaka, the Orion header above will be added to replace it.

I just have a fear that it will be hard to tear myself away. It was in 2007 when i had to leave, I was there till the Tuesday and everyone else had packed up and left before Dave Lochead kindly drove me to the airport. I'm so pleased to be able to go back to that wonderful environment again. Roll on tomorrow...

Who did the Bristol one? A couple of sentences of background here would be cool too, in a couple of years not everyone will know the story.

I took the Bristol Freighter photo on the Wednesday that I got down there. We were having a bbq at John's hangar and Al said the Bristol was parked in front of the MAC clubrooms and the floodlights were on it. he'd gotten a couple of photos and I was so impressed I shot down and took a couple. This was the best one. When i posted it in the photo thread Stu suggested it'd make a good header so I cobbled one up.
All the other headers are still offline (hopefully my photobucket will work when the USA catches up to the right month) so I am not rotating them at the moment but keep the headers, photos and suggestions coming in.

I took that photo at Tauranga airport about 18 months ago. Thought it might make a change from the Bristol.

Ah both pleasurable images! It took me a minute or so to recognise the location of the Beech but hold-point Golf One was familiar for some reason. Tauranga - a great place to fly in and out of during the summer.....

Lived in Maungatapu for 5 years as a nipper...catching spratts off the bridge..anyway I digress, great piccy!

Thanks. I think the Beech 1900D's are great aircraft to travel in, such a good amount of headroom, etc. When I cam back across Cook Strait after Omaka I was almost at the back but on approach to Rongotai it was fantastic to notice I could look along the aisle and see the view out the front windows, and when compared with looking out my side window the front view looking straight down about 45 degrees at the runway really gave a better impression of how much we were swinging in the wind. Bloody scary and yet thrilling, and you could see the crew at work looking so calm and used to the swing. Sad to hear recently due to that mental overstayer highjacking fat bee-arch that the Beech's will have to be fitted with doors in future as that interesting and unique view will be lost to passengers.
