Top of the Pops in the February registrations has to be the Curtiss P-40N ZK-VWC. This is listed as 42-104827, which makes it the P-40N-1 A29-414 that flipped at Tadji Airfield, New Guinea, 24Apr1944.
(For the history of this aircraft see www.pacificwrecks.com/aircraft/p-40/A29-414.html )
Newly registered to Pioneer Aero Restorations Limited, it is reported that the aircraft has been sold to an owner in Canada, and presumably will depart to there after flight testing has been completed.
Despite the reported departure of Qantas NZ from our skies, Jetconnect have registered another Boeing 737-476 as ZK-JTS, previously in Australia as VH-TJZ
The ghost of P-51D Mustang ZK-CCG must have rolled a little when a Jabiru J160 Ultralight became the third bearer of these markings (ZK-CCG/2 was a Bushby-Long MM-2 Midget Mustang II that was never completed). You'd think one of the Titan T51 Mustang boys would have grabbed this registration for old time's sake.
The original ZK-JAL was a James Aviation Fu-24 that eventually went overseas a couple of years ago, the second one is now a Christchurch-based Fisher R80 Tiger Moth. Maybe looking at fitting a hopper in there?
A new type on the scene is the oddly named B & F Technik Vertri. Two of these have appeared, an FK 9 Mk IV which has become ZK-RDW/2 and a FK 14 B appearing as ZK-RFD. Mt Maunganui based, these are apparently some form of gyrocopter.
We may yet see another FW 190 in our skies soon - the Wanaka-owned Jurca MJ-8 ZK-YKZ seems to possess that profile.
The Taylor Monoplane ZK-CPC has gone to a new owner in Kaikohe. This is quite an elusive aeroplane - despite being in existence for 40 years (over 20 of those years with Auckland owners) I have never seen it. Maybe I'm due to visit Kaikohe soon.
Gisborne -based Kiwi Air have acquired yet another PAC 750XL, ZK-XLE, to join the fleet of four others - ZK-JBC/2 SWA/2 XLA and XLB.
Piper PA-34-220T ZK-MDY, a long-time Dennis Thompson resident, has been sold to the Walton Family Trust and changed its ID to ZK-KLW. It was on display at Ardmore for the recent Pilot Expo.
Ardmore Flying School lost Cessna 172R ZK-TAX when it was destroyed in a water landing Clevedon inlet 3Jul05. They have now acquired another 172R in the shape of ZK-JRH which has now become ZK-TAX/2.
We seem to have lost 50% of NZ's active Zlin Z-37T population with the cancellation of both ZK-BOC/2 and ZK-DOZ, leaving just ZK-WLO and ZK-PJO - one each for the North and South Islands.
The Beech G17S ZK-MOE from Napier has departed these shores, as has long time Auckland/North Shore resident Cessna U206G ZK-EJG.
A Piper PA28 Archer III ex VH-WMX was registered ZK-VIC to First Air Ltd., Tauranga back in mid-2004. Did this ever take to the air here? It has now gone back overseas after being advertised for sale at AUD205,000.
Finally, the Middle Earth Flying School Ltd. of Pukekohe has moved to the slightly more appropriate location of Otorahanga taking Airtourer ZK-DNF with them.
