I am an aviation enthusiast who grew up in Kenya in the 1950's.
As a retirement project I have decided to start a photographic archive of all the aircraft that appeared on the Kenyan colonial register VP-K** from 1929 through to 1965 when the colony became independent and adopted the regn marks 5Y-***
So I am looking for any images of aircraft bearing the marks VP-K**, also VP-U** & VR-T**. Looking for them in any format: digital, prints or slides.
The project is entirely non-commercial however I am willing to pay modest prices and meet any expenses including postage, copying costs etc...
Any offers gratefully received. By the way about 480 or so aircraft appeared on the register over the period.

Flyernzl............
Thks for the suggestion, I hang around that forum very regularly and have considered posting. One problem is the forum does not have a sales/wants section which is a pity. Anyway thks again for the suggestion, lets just see if I have any luck.

As a matter of interest, I find that five aircraft have turned up in NZ having had previous VP-K** registrations:
Miles M.2P Hawk Major ZK-AFJ ex VP-KBJ
Stinson SR-10 Reliant ZK-BDV ex VP-KDV
Piper PA23 Apache 150 ZK-BWJ ex VP-KOO
Lockheed 18-56 Lodestar ZK-CGV ex VP-KIB
Aero Commander 680-FL ZK-DBQ ex VP-KTX
The bad news is that all of the above have been destroyed.

Flyernzl.........
Thks for the information in your response. It is images of the aircraft actually wearing their Kenyan identities that I am after.
Do have images of VP-KDV Stinson & VP-KOO PA23 Apache.

Martin.........
Thank you for those two leads.......much appreciated.
The project is going quite well, thanks to several peoples generosity I have built up a collection of about 130 images. Around 480 a/c appeared on the register.
Still looking, so any offers gratefully received especially the "one offs" and unusual ones.
Thanks & regards Planemike........

Just taking this opportunity to update my advert.
Pleased to report that I have been able to locate images of nearly 300 Kenyan VP-K** registered aircraft thanks to some great generous help from quite a few individuals.
However that still leaves me looking for around another 190!!! So if you have any photos illustrating VP-K** registered a/c you would be willing to share with me please drop me a note letting me know what you have.
Thanks............ Planemike

Mike, I have recently come by a collection of slides following the death of older friend who served as a Policeman & Tarnsport operator in Kenya thru the 50s & up to about 1966. Prior to that he had been in the RAF Regiment post war. He was a fair sort of aviation enthusiast so I would be surprised if there aren't some plane shots among them. I haven't got around to sorting them yet but will keep you in mind as I do so. I hope to get to them over the next few months & this thread might just give me some impetous. Steve.

During the last year have managed to locate a few more images for my on going collection but still looking for more!! Just to give an idea of what has been added: VP-KHS Avro Anson anti locust spraying. (nearly completes the Ansons, two/three left to locate). www.flickr.com/photos/richmal/503666995/sizes/o/in/set-72157594563886241/VP-KKO Auster Autocar of Desert Locust Control Org. ( still looking for images of another 6 Autocars that appeared on the register). VP-KSK Piper PA-22 Colt. (First one, another three to find). Thks for reading through my appeal. Hello PlaneMike; I have approx 120,000 negatives of (mostly) British Commonwealth aircraft. When doing research on a wide variety of aircraft, I have noticed a number of them from Kenya, but would harldly remember Which ones, at this late date. Do you have any type of "want" list which lists the Aircraft and mark # that you are still seeking photos of? The more specific the better. Most of these negative envelopes would have the VP-K nunbers typed on the envelopes, along with other information as to dates, place, and sometimes pilots and special events, battles, airfields sqns etc. You say you have a registration list, if it includeds the make and Mark, I can probably help. and it would help to know which ones you ALREADY have, so as not to waste time on those.. These negs are organized by make and Mark, primarily.

Hello Bearcat, Thks for your suggestion. Have always felt that there should be some photos of Kenyan registered a/c in SA. I will put an ad together and see what happens. Have several versions of the VP-K** register. This one is pretty good, mainly taken from official records. www.ab-ix.co.uk/vp-kaa.pdf Happy Christmas !!! Thks & rgds Planemike

Thanks for looking at my plea/request......
It is a year since I last updated it. I am still looking for images of VP-K** registered aircraft, have found one or two this year.
As an example, I am looking for an image of VP-KRP Aermacchi AL60, only one registered in Kenya but I feel someone out there must have photographed it...... Go on, check your albums...!
As ever, any help will be most welcome.

Well no luck with -KRP, despite giving you over twelve months!!!
Lets try another on one. I am looking for an image of deH 104 Dove VP-KDG. East African Airways bought and operated four Doves. When they were sold, two, including -KDG, went to Mandated Airlines in PNG. Both were apparently delivered wearing their Kenyan marks. Photograph of VP-KDG, anyone??
As ever, any help with this or any other VP-K images will be most welcome.

Greetings all.......
Ten years (gosh, where has the time gone??!!) since I last made a nuisance of myself around here looking for photographs of East African registered aircraft from the colonial era VP-K**, VP-U** & VR-T**.... Have over the years added some more images, the rate has slowed considerably. Still hunting for around 150 VP-Ks, plus VP-U and VR-Ts..... Never give up, you just never know what is our there or when or where it will turn up.....
Thanks for reading....
