Bolly Locks - BAD CGI (A/C) baby!: (& prolly even worser acting/story) The Red Baron - Trailer"Baron Manfred von Richthofen (Schweighöfer) is the most feared and celebrated pilot of the German air force in World War I. To him and his companions, air combats are events of sporty nature, technical challenge and honorable acting, ignoring the terrible extent of war. But after falling in love with the nurse Käte (Headey), Manfred realizes he is only used for propaganda means. Caught between his disgust for the war, and the responsibility for his fighter wing, von Richthofen sets out to fly again."

I knew about the film but I thought it was in the German language. I didn't know there was a version where they're speaking English. I'd love to see it, it looks great.

Ok now I have yet another film I want to see on the big screen! Nice to see some of accuracy and haven't got him in a Fokker Triplane at the start of his "Red Baron" career. Baz ;D

I have a copy of this, its out in English now (dont ask how I got it)
I wrote a review on a gaming forum :
Watched this after reading negative reviews hoping it wasnt that bad, turns out its only half that bad
The Movie was filmed in english and first dubbed into German and finally released in English. Story wise it loosely follows Richthofen's life from early 1917, as a Squadron leader, being wounded, meeting a nurse, falling for her and seeing how he is being used as a propaganda tool for send men to the grinder on the western front.
The issues I had were they seemingly turned the Baron, a hard nosed Prussian Officer to for lack of a better word a hippy, he brielfy mentions the thrill he has hunting english fliers, but nothing like he wrote in his autobiography but spends more time brooding over the pointlessness of the war (I assume its Germany still not allowing itself to glorify a war hero). Lothar Von Richthofen was well played I thought he was much more passionate about the dogfight than Manfred and was reckless to a fault.
Werner Voss was played a character far too old, Voss IRL was a dogfighter supreme, young and head strong, he never turned down a fight and his fight to the death would have been magic to see in this movie, taking on 5 RFC aces and putting holes in every one of them before they finally got a killing burst into him. His death was just a mention in the movie
The relationship Richthofen has with Brown is very strange, they somehow meet several times during the movie and almost become friends!
The aerial combat was lacking in depth though it was very enjoyable to watch. There were maybe 4 combat scenes which were too short and didnt show the very strict way that Richthofen fought but more of a dogfight for the sake of exciting cinema. The angles and effects during the fight scenes were great, wires whistling plywood creaking, it was really immersive.
The real stars were the Albatros fighters, there were painted up in the impressive and random schemes that Jasta 11 used and were a joy to see flying (even if it was cgi)
3/5 out of 5 if only for the paint schemes 2/5 otherwise.

No one will ever beat Adrian Edmondson as the Red Baron for me. He was fantastic in the role in Blackadder Goes Forth.
This film sounds all right and better than Flyboys, which most people hated but I tolerated ok.

I haven't seen Flyboys but the trailer made me think of Pearll Harbour and another USA won the war type movie. (Not dis-respecting any American vets who might read this, more the Hollywood flag wavers out there!). If you found it watchable perhaps i will have a look. Baz ;D

It wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as Pearl Harbor by a long chalk.
