I hear that there is a replica Hawker Hurricane being built at Timaru. I believe it is fiberglass and based on the Sindlinger design. I was told construction was well advanced but could not find out anymore. Does anybody have info on this project

Mine has completed over 250 hours. The original Mitsi V6 was a bit of an unknown so about a year ago I purchased another engine ($200) and over the last year rebuilt it to new spec with xrayed & crack tested parts. Total rebuild cost about $2000. At the 100hr check in Dec 08 I decided to slot in the rebuilt engine. The original one was still going well with Cly compression all at about 180psi but it was starting to burn about 1 ltr of oil per 6 hours. At the same time I decided to dismantled the PSRU. To minimize my down time I pre purchased new bearings & belt (bearings $200 & belt $350) for it but once the unit was stripped down I found the original bearings and belt were still in almost as new condition. So I now have a completely rebuilt power plant and PSRU. I did an oil analysis after the first 10hrs and as expected the metals readings were up a bit. Retested at 25hrs and ppm/hour were reduced by half. I am due to send another sample off in 5 hours and expect to see the metal ppm/hour to continue to reduce. I would be very surprised if the engine PSRU combo would need any attention for at least another 500hrs.
There have been no issues with the airframe and she flies straight and level with hands and feet off the controls. I frequently loop & roll her but they are quite gentle maneuvers around +3g -1.5g I did stall it at the top of a loop once and nothing bad happened she just tumbled and I ended up facing where I had come from and right way up. However I do watch my entry speed a bit more carefully. So I guess it is a very forgiving design. I have done several two hour flights ( legal endurance limit). More fuel capacity would be nice.
I have heard from the museum in Canada that they are refurbishing their display Sindlinger and hope to get it flying again later this year. I know of two more currently being build in the US and I think there is one on they way in the UK. I have lost track of the one partially completed in Aust but from what I heard it was 75% completed prior to its being sold.

I'm not sure from your post if you want pics of the one currently being built in Timaru or of my ZK-VYX. If it is the Timaru one I am unable to help

Great photos of a good looking machine. Just need some 20mm SUV busting rounds in the wing to keep Taieri as we know it. Gotta make sure the neighbours know who was there first

.223 would be about the right scale cal. Where can I find a belt feed machine gun in this cal. I would need eight of them although six would get me started

Found an interesting & I think a relevant link - a bit of history about the design: www.airbum.com/pireps/PirepHurricane.htmlThe article is quite old, and the picture a tad "pink" but none the less quite interesting. The whole site is quite interesting - read what its like o fly a ME108, P51-D, Bearcat etc
