Hello all. Hoping someone here can help. I have a Recreational (microlight) licence from back home in Aussie through the RAA and want to transfer it to here in NZ. Want to go and check out some airfields. I am in Auckland (next to the airport) and I am wondering if anyone knows the best place for me to check out? I used to fly rag and tube machines such as the Bantam and also flew something faster in the way of a Jabiru. I'm into the socialisation factor that comes with small/community grass strips. Anyone know where to point me? I've been sitting on my butt too long and want to get flying again. Thanks in advance.

Hi Darren, I haven't forgotten I'm meant to be taking you flying. Weather has been crap or i've been stuck in the office but lets aim for a day.
The best places to visit from Auckland are Parakai Airfield in the northwest or Te Kowhai in the Waikato. Both are microlight based, Te Kowhai is the home of the Bantam and probably has a little more going on with busy resident instructors operating full time. (i'm not sure about Parakai)

Both Parakai and Te Kowhai are good places for the lighty-flighty experience. Bryn Lockie at Parakai has instructors using the Tecnam (and DynAero if you want a real hot ship) and Dave Readman at Te Kowhai has a Bantam B22 and a Stork at his disposal. It will really depend on where you live as to which one is the more accessible www.parakaiairfield.co.nz/ or www.sportflying.co.nz/NZTE is my home airfield, but I also know Bryn at Parakai and they have a good setup there.
