I don't know how many people here have seen these photos before, but they're really amazing. I have scanned these from various editions of New Zealand Wings magazine. As there are prewar, wartime and postwar RNZAF, and also civil, I decided to put this into the General Board of the forum The first lot were Dufay transperencies taken by Mr D.D. "Ned" Kelly, and appeared in they were scanned from the December/January 1992 issue of Wings Baffin NZ117 (still in it's FAA colours) Vildebeest NZ104 Dragon Rapide ZK-AEC "Mercury" (later in RNZAF) Simmonds Spartan ZK-ABU Robinson Redwing ZK-ADD (later RNZAF INST.112) Fox Moth ZK-ADI

OK, despite the few comments here I have had a ot of positive feedback on this thread which is cool. Here are a couple of pages I scanned from NZ Wings April 1995 with some amazing old photos And here is another fantastic shot taken by Brian Souter in the 1950's at RNZAF Station Taieri, Dunedin. This is scanned from NZ Wings dated July 1989, and it is now on my desktop oc I love it. If you remove the Devon it could be No. 1 EFTS in wartime As for P51D Mustangs Chris, I don't think i have any in colour sadly (except the Warbirds one). I hope someone else will find some and place them here for all to see though, there must be some out there somewhere.

Here are a couple more pages, not so old but certainly historic. And the photography is simply gorgeous. Fieldair's C47 cross-Cook Strait operations. I'm certain this was the same day that photo 16 was taken was when a TVNZ crew went on the flight for the Holmes Show (hence reporter Tony Ciprian being mentioned). They did a feature on the Dakotas which had equally as stunning early morning photography. I think that was aired when they were to retire. I have it on tape somewhere,

Below is a picture I found recently when sorting through my Great Grandfathers Slide collection. Taken in the 1950s, it shows ZK-AQU "Pihoihoi"(ex NZ3542) unloading passengers. I'm not sure of the location but I think it is Paraparaumu. (Can anyone confirm this?) This aircraft returned to RNZAF service in 1965 and made its way to South Africa (with the 1977 ferry flight) It is still there (I think I had a photo of it on one of my threads some time ago) But isnt this a great photo - I think it captures the era nicely....

Wow, that's a great photo. It certainly does capture the era well. Those men in white with their milkman hats just smack of good service. And the passengers look quite well off too.
Just a guess, but that wouldn't be Woodbourne would it? The hills look familiar.
Were there any other aeronautical slides in the collection Bruce?

I'm afraid this was the only aircraft out of several hundred slides. My Gt Grandfather must have been quite a photographer as some of the scenic slides are really stunning. He also had several ship and and railway photos, and a puzzling set showing a circus train at Wellsford Railway station - with FIVE Elephants! At some stage he and my great Grandmother did get down into the South Island, there are awesome photos of Mt Cook and Christchurch in the set, so possibly this could have have been taken on that trip - Maybe Woodbourne isnt a long shot after all.....

I'll tell you what, some of them may be of interest to the publishers of New Zealand Memories magazine. That's a fascinating and excellent magazine that relies heavily on good photographs. See their site here www.memories.co.nz/The C47, the boats and also the trains might be of interest. Can you please post the circus train - I'm really interested to see that. Did you know Bruce that a circus used to come into Cambridge on the train in the 1940's and 50's, possibly that same one. They stopped the train by Taylor Street and used to set up the circus where the Maternity Home used to be (or pssibly across the road in the greenbelt there. Mum told me one year the elephants escaped and rampaged through neighbouring gardens, crushing all the flowerbeds in sight!

Would anyone on the forum have a contact for the son of the late 'Ned' Kelly, please?

Wow these are great old pic's, thank you for sharing could I go right back to the first picture of the Vildebeest. I have read about a ground crew actually walking through the propeller while it was spinning at idle and he wasn't touched, is this true or a myth?

Back 1986 I flew in the jump seat Fieldair freight run Christchurch to Wellington and back, most of the photo's are hazy but one I did fluke reaching over the shoulder of the pilot was this one over the Strait.
