They are a new set, I saw a review of them in a British modelling magazine that I was reading in a shop one day (but didn't buy...so I can't remember who makes them).

Some pics from the weekend One end of the crowded aircraft table The always small for some reason helicopter section All the work of one modeller.... Armour and military vehicle section Part of a large collection of RAF trainers, transports and helicopters, all mostly the work of one very dedicated modeller. Some very rarely seen models here Including a 1:72 Tristar C.1 Sci fi and misc section Nice cold war submarine display Very nice little 1:72 F-100 1:48 Mcdonnell F-3H Demon deserverdly picked up first in its class Very nicely finished 1/48 Ju-52 Some of my jets in the smaller than 1/48 section Some of the 1/48 props, including a couple by one of our forum members Another class winner by another forum member, an exquisitely detailed 1/48 Legacy Hornet Some more of the RAF collection, including a 1:72 Hastings The Wingnuts Wings stand attracted a steady stream of visitors thoughout the weekend The Junior section, the He-115 floatplane at bottom left deservedly picking up best in class. I wish I was modelling that well at that age! 1/32 Tornado and Hunter in the large scale class Beautiful pair of A-4 models depicting '06 early and late in its career, alongside a Macchi that may be familiar to some! Best NZ aircraft was this superb Avenger in 1/48 Amongst other placings I picked up 2nd and 3rd in the Nationals Military Jet smaller than 1/48 with my 1/72 Hustler and 1/100 Thunderchief And lastly the junior make and take competition, a great way to get kids into the hobby

Great photos and congrats to all forum members who won awards.

Thanks for posting those images, Sam. Good to see so much variation in the types on display. Is that the Macchi that nearly broke you?

Great photos and congrats to all forum members who won awards. Do they not have a diorama section? Thanks Dave! They did, and I saw the Dad's Army vignette mentioned, but it was only when I got home that I realised I hadn't taken any pictures of it! The Dad's Army scen was quite neat, you could recognise the faces.

Wow these are some really amazing models. The make and take session looks to me as though the fathers are in some cases, enjoying it more than the kids.

I recall a time when it was predicted that kit modelling was going to die out, because video games were taking over the world at the time. I think it's safe to say that those predictions have been well and truly proven wrong!

I recall a time when it was predicted that kit modelling was going to die out, because video games were taking over the world at the time. I think it's safe to say that those predictions have been well and truly proven wrong! Quite right! I visited on both days, and saw things on the second I'd missed on the first. What I did see was huge enthusiasm, and amazing skill levels. The Wingnut models had a crowd around them all day. I also noticed the number of accents around in New Zealand these days, more than a few South Africans among them! There was also a bit of a revelation to see some models I had never known existed in kit form, and that was especially poignant on the RAF collection in that it included three aircraft I had actually flown in! All were based at RAF Eastleigh near Nairobi when I was there: the Beverley of 30 Sqn; the Twin Pioneer of 21 Sqn, and the Station Flight Pembroke on which I regularly bludged rides. Possibly the reason was the crew always required someone to manually turn each of the Alvis Leonides engines through nine blades before start up! The Pembroke was shown in the markings of 60 Sqn at RAF Wildenrath in Germany, but I happen to know that's where it went when it left Kenya. I also seem to recall it was purchased at final disposal and still flies to this day in the UK. So you see, visiting a Model expo is full of surprises.

Sam, thank-you ever so much for sharing! Looks like I may have to be at the next Nats, what a tremendous selection of superb models! A Hastings AND Oxford at one show? Awesome! Still......no Fletchers...... Bring on 2010!

Incredible pics and what dedication to their craft by all concerned. Hope to see pics of the Dad's Army figures, it's one of my favourite programmes from when I was growing up. My grandad was actually in the Home Guard in Yorkshire so it was something he and my Mum could relate to and explain to us young nippers. One day I'd like to get back into modelling, maybe this is just the incentive......

Zac, if you cannot wait till their next event you could always come to the model competition in Cambridge in November, at the Armistice in Cambridge event. You could bring your own Fletcher too.

Sorry Zac, I know BOF should have been done and on show... definitely next year.
The photo's so far look fantastic, congratulations to all that entered and contributed. Really wish I could have been there, a bit down in the dumps about not being able to make it.
That 1/72 tristar would have taken a car auto spray shop to get enough paint on.
Really interesting and unique models as well. I think it is a bit of a credit to NZ modellers that there are some unusual and different subjects on display. So many model shows I have been to recently have been spitfire and mustang displays (not that there is anything wrong with that, but it is hard to appreciate the individual models in a sea of kind!).
I might keep November in mind, canopy starts tonight on BOF and fuel tanks were done yesterday, seeing she operated in the area might be quite suitable for a public unveiling!
cheers Mike
