What is that wonderful flying boat on the poster? It looks great. Is that a genuine RAF colour scheme or fantasy?

I would love to have attended this event, unfortunately my fletcher build of BOF and I will not be ready in time. Next year I will make it easy (Said whilst trying to complete my 18th canopy)...!!!!!
Please post images of the event, I am sure there will be many talented modellers with their efforts deserving of display.
Lovely paint job on that flying boat as well!

The flying boat is by James Fahey in 1/72 and is the Roden kit IIRC. Colours are authentic.

Sorry for taking the thread so off track Dave, but this Felixstowe model is fascinating, and it's great to see on Joe's link all the different colourful RAF schemes way back in WWI. I'd always thought it was just the Germans who went for the bright colours.

He certainly did, that scheme would have taken some serious skill and patience.

I'm looking forward to the announcements at this event by Wingnut Wings, Dave. Please feel free to post any new info here on the forum too. www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/film/2836490/Peter-Jackson-is-lord-of-the-wingsPeter Jackson is lord of the wingsBy KATHERINE NEWTON - The Dominion Post A foray into the world of hobby modelling has established Peter Jackson as New Zealand's own lord of the wings. The film-maker's latest side venture will be unveiled to the Wellington public when scale aeroplane models from his new model company, Wingnut Wings, go on display at the National Scale Models Expo this weekend. The models all World War I aircraft went on sale on the company's website about four months ago, after years of planning and work. Wingnut Wings co-ordinator Richard Alexander said the company was the result of Jackson's long-term passion for modelling, as well as for vintage aircraft. "It's no secret that he did all the modelling himself for his first movies. He's in a position now where he can make the sort of models that he's always wanted to build himself." Hundreds of hours of painstaking research went into each model kit, Mr Alexander said. Company staff were able to examine Jackson's own collection of reproduction World War I aircraft and memorabilia to make sure certain details were absolutely correct. They also had help from another company with a long association with Jackson Weta Digital in Wellington, which did the digital modelling for many of the kitsets. Expo organiser Ewan Forbes said he was excited about seeing the company's models up close. "The quality they're producing is exceptional." As well as Wingnut Wings' models, about 1000 other scale models, including railways, cars and military figures, would be on display. The expo is open from 10am until 4pm at Lower Hutt Horticultural Hall today and tomorrow.

www.wingnutwings.com/ww/Wingnut Wings' passion is to provide accurate, highly detailed, large scale models that are as enjoyable to build for both the experienced and novice modeller alike. By designing these models to be a pleasure to build we hope to attract people unaccustomed to the satisfaction of modelling aviation's epic and tragic pioneer years. Designed and researched by passionate professionals utilising original factory drawings whenever possible, historic and contemporary photos, information supplied by some of the worlds leading experts in their fields and working closely with The Vintage Aviator Ltd, we believe our models to be the most accurate ever produced of their subjects. We are making models the way we have always wanted models to be made and trust you will get as much enjoyment from them as we do

I was very tempted to buy the Bristol fighter... but $139 was out of my price range, even for such a fantastic looking kit.
Especially when I got home, did the maths on the price on the wingnuts website (even adding GST and using paypal's poor exchange rate) and found the price came to $132! I thought there might have even been a show special, but to charge more than the US to NZ$ price on the website made me quite glad I didn't fall for the 'shiny, must have ' syndrome.
I was heartened by the photo etched rigging that was on display for upcoming release though. One of the things putting me off building one of these WW1 aircraft is the rigging, but I'm pretty comfortable with PE so that takes away another excuse for not buying one.

One of the nicest little models on display at the show was a group of 54mm figures from the Dad's Army TV show. There was Captain Mainwaring, CPL Jones, SGT Wilson and PTE Godfrey. I'm not sure who the manufacturer was though, but they looked very good.

So what were the new Wingnut Wings releases? Any sign of a Be2 yet?
Would love to see a shot of the Dad's Army models! One of the blokes at work is a big fan...not to mention our own Dave H!

There have been a few different sets released over the years of the Dad's Army cast. The first ones known were in the late 1980's to early 1990's and about 120 sets in white metal were made, in 54mm from memory, but the produstion shut down when the BBC stepped in demanding their cut for using the copyrighted name (quite rightly). So he quit rather than be sued.
There have more recently been sets a bit smaller in scale, more the wargamer size. Not sure if they had official permission. And Corgi made 1/32nd die cast models of Jones' van and Hodges' van which each had figures with them. Bloody overpriced they were, too.
A chap in the UK was also manufacturing two foot tall models for the garden, like gnomes but not, of the Dad's Army cast.
I'd be interested to know more or to see the 54 mm figures you saw though Phil. i wonder if they're the old originals or if they're a new set?
I actually built a model years ago of the Church Hall with all the main ten cast members depicted in 1/35th and it was quite a talking piece and I have to say myself, really good,. That is till a certain cat sitting here right now beside me, and/or his now deceased pal decided to sit on it and then push it onto the floor to dispose of the evidence. One day I may rebuild it if I ever get back into modelling. It had already been totally rebuilt, upgrading from crappy balsa to crisp plastic card structure with more detail. Maybe Mk III will be something to behold one day.
