I'm so looking forward to summer. Black Sands, Sport Avec, Ardmore Pilot Expo, Whitiang Airshow and Speedweek. Hopefully Whenuapai Openday, Ohakea?. Since I can't get to the big South Islands shows it's great to have so many opportunities to do fly things up here

That's really bad news Philip. Sympathy. Looks like I'm going to have to walk to Raglan now.

Beach flying workshop on Sunday morning. Gibson's Beach. Typical rugged North Island West Coast scenery, salt spray and black sand - oh, and aeroplanes.... Acro Sport lands with previous arrivals behind. visible on the original image but not so clear on this smaller one is the Mosquito helicopter parked on the hill above the Tripacer in the background! My ride to the beach, Alpi Pioneer 200 ZK-LPI AirCam on finals over the spectator gallery Cessna 150 "Lead Ship" for the day, Bill Henwoods cub and a Cessna 180. Bill took the briefing on beach flying techniques. Note the spade in case anyone found the soft bits! another C180 Interesting angle on a Jodel Pacer PAT Very Rare McNair Mynah - the only one still flying. Mynah on finals with XAir landing ahead RV10 Flyby

Super photos there Bruce, some of them are really dramatic. Well done. It looks like you had a great weekend. I wish I could have been there.

Looks like a really great day, really would have liked to have been there. Good to see the Cubs there. Purely out of interest, what is the yellow biplane in the first set of photos? Not one I've seen before.

The yellow biplane is a Stolp V-Star, flown from Stratford by Bruce McClennan. The shot of the "3 cubs" taxiing out is not quite as it seems as the leader is actually ZK-OHA, a Zlin Savage. lots of lovely Piper Classics though with the Pacer and Tripacer in attendance as well.

Looks like a good variety of aircraft. Hopefully, we get another chance to see them all early next year for the Taranga SAA SportAvex and airshow. I really enjoyed the article I read about the building of the RV10. I would have liked to stick my nose in to that one to see what it was like... Is it too big and heavy to land on the beach? Or just new builder/owner unwilling to risk the sands with his baby?

Great photos eieio. That really takes me back to last year when I enjoyed a great weekend with the hospitable people of the SAA at Black Sands. Nice to see Baz again. I wonder if he reads the forum. I know a lot of the guys there do.
Is that young Andrew's project behind Bruce in the 'looking at photos' photo? Has it progressed much in the past year? Where is young mr Parsons these days. He still emails me regularly but I haven't seen him post here for a while. How's the plane coming along Andrew?

thanks (I think) for those photo links eieio! In response, following is a picture of a Savage - and an aeroplane! (Mr eieio and Mr Colquhoun, expert Rabbit hole eliminators.) In response to earlier questions: about the RV10, yes Evan both answers are correct. The RV10 is quite heavy and has small wheels, and Neil Colliver didnt want to risk it. he had 3 of his kids on board (just part of his big family!) and the aircraft is being prepped for a round the world flight next year, so he made a sensible call. About the picture board with the VP2, yes Andrew is still at it, but progress is slow due to various family circumstances. Should be under way again soon though.

Ah ha, now I know who eieio is. You seem to have changed usernames Bruce (eieio, not Cooke) Did you manage to have a plane there this year? Nice to see Graham again too.

Yes, I flew in Dave, agricultural types will understand why I was not locked in by a silage crop this year,Its global warming of course to blame for lack of grass. One people photographer needs replacing, Im sure I looked more cheerful than that.
