A message from Roger Pearce: CALLING ALL EX NZ ARMY PILOTS AND GROUND CREW From the early 50s until late 70s a number of NZ Army officers were trained as light aircraft and helicopter pilots. In the mid 60s a unit called the Light Aircraft Flight was established (as part of 3 BSS, RNZAF). The only historical reference to this rather unique band of aviators (and their support crews) is a very short paragraph on AOP pilots in the history of the RNZA. Unless something is done now this rather special bit of NZ Army'shistory will be lost so I am trying to construct a roll of pilots (and theground crews that supported them) as a first step to putting together abrief history. So, any former AOP and NZAAC pilots or ground crew out there: 1. Please email me your name, regimental number and dates you were posted to flying duties and, if appropriate, your attachment to 1 Light Aircraft Flight, 2. if you can, please add the names of others who served with you (andtheir contact details if you have them). and 3. if you have any photos or other material you think might help pleasemail it to me at: 47 Simla Crescent, Khandallah, Wellington, 6035. My email address is rojann@paradise.net.nzTelephone: 04 970 2113. This is a first step. Having a list of names I'll be in touch to ferret outany anecdotes that could add interest. Thanks. Roger Pearce

Dave
Not sure if relevant, but I thought the pilot of the Sioux crash in '84 (?) at Helensville was an Army Pilot - one of the last (?) flights maybe. Was "volunteered" to be part of a party that went to do a "search" of the beach soon after the crash - remember finding a end cap of one of the rotors .. it certain was a mess, still can't believe no one was killed.

There are two Air force trained Army Pilots left - one in the South Island and One in the UK (defence Attache staff). There is one Massey Trained Pilot left with the UAV project. (no brevet) and one with the Engineers.
