The museum seem to be making a habit of parking stuff up and neglecting it, bit of a shame, but they have built some sheds of late to house things, but even the hudson under cover is just as it was pushed in.

Hi, If anyone has a copy of Wings November 1982, has the write-up on the mustangs. Shows 2427 at Omaka airshow in April 1959, it also says vandals damaged both 2427 & 2428, resulting in both aircraft being dismantled and stored with a number of components sent to austrailia to assist Robert Vuletich's restoration project. Peter Coleman also had bits of 2402, 03, 05 ,13, 14 and 26. Also says 2427 lost its wings outboard of undercart and was rebuilt using wings off 2402,prop off 2423, and wheels off 2408.If no one esle can find mag I will scan pages and get them on site.

IFR--I follow railroads, when a relieving agg pilot was at Taieri, they were out the back of Middlemarch way at it turned claggy, heading back to Taieri, Mike says to Alf the loader driver, there's the rail-line we'll just follow it home, Alf says no you won't there is a tunnel just around the corner---local Knowledge. Not an instructor story but!

In a Wings mag of about 1972 era yhere is a write up about 2427, it stated that parts of I think 2728 were attached, (I will dig it out), when Alpine Fighters got 2427 I showed it to Ray Mulqueen, which he said solved the puzzle because parts had different numbers. I think the front cover has it at an airshow, otherwise great pictures / story, this is real history which is slowly dissappearing.

They probably were quite like the early 172 spats that created more drag than the wheels in the breeze. The plastic front mudguard came off the 3 wheel bikes, and when flying beside a fletcher the front wheel rotated backwards, presumeably because of the air going between the guard and wheel. Fletchers used to be delivered without the safety wires on the mains, so if a sissor bolt broke the strut pulled out of the oleo at lift-off making a interesting landing, with the safety wires the wheel just skidded along at right angles.

Hi mstokes, must apoligise, it was BHO that we got rebuilt, but I did tip quite a few ton in BOF. Central Aviation had four 300's BHO BOF CMG CMM and CTO was Mt Cook airlines ag division with BHK at Fairlie. Yes BHO went to Fiji and was written off. Thanks for the pictures, they were great days. Will post a few old photos after I scan them.

Hi Just joined and saw BOF picture, I loaded BOF, put the first load in off rebuild back in 1977 I think, It was completely rebuilt at Taieri, only the nameplate by the tail was original, owned by Central Aviation and was flown by Brian Beck at Naseby in Central Otago. as workload increased we got 400 EMA brand new, which is now a walter conversion and in Roxburgh, flown by Geoff Bishop
