The team has been working really hard on this project - we aim to ensure that what we have achieved of having all the planes under cover (first time in 50 years) and cared for, is the number 1 target. Except that the Solent will now be outside under the same sort of cover as the Sunderland so we can paint it.

I was at Motot yesterday and I understand the moving was due to start today. Avenger up to the Fleet Air Arm area, Solent outside and Sunderland in. Does anyone know what if any happened today ? They were putting the tail and cockpit covers on the Solent yesterday arvo.

I left at around 3.30pm and at that stage the Avenger was up in the FAA area ans the Solent had just made it outside. The B747 simulator is now over in the Blister hangar.

The Solent move-out took place around 1 - 2pm. It needed to be manouvered out semi-sideways (about a 45 degree angle) in order to clear all the obstructions. Interesting to watch:

I was invited up to the big move today as a special behind the scenes guest, but sadly could not make it. Very exciting times.

That's quite remarkable how good the Sunderland looks now. Last time I saw her when I was back home many moons ago she was a right mess. Well done MOTAT and it's about time the old girl was given a nice cosy space inside.

Absolutely brilliant. I can remember seeing her sitting at Hobbie looking rather sad. BUT I do hope she is dressed correctly prop wise.

I was there today and cannot believe how good it looks I took my first photos of the Sunderland about 45 years ago as An 7 or 8 year old and have waited this long to see it restored. I cannot wait until the Solent is painted and in the ADH And the big 3 are all together.

Somebody seriously needs to run a re-education program for journalists and teach them the difference between a seaplane and a flying-boat. And also the difference between an Empire Boat, a Sandringham, a Sunderland and a Solent.

Try telling that to one of the two surviving ex-TEAL flying-boat pilots.
He is absolutely insistent that there is a difference....ie, a seaplane is a land-plane on pontoons or floats, whereas a flying-boat puts its hull in the water and uses either sponsons or outboard floats for balance while on the water. He asked me if I knew the difference while I was talking to him via Skype recently, and I obviously gave him the correct answer, because he was happy with my answer. And I happen to agree with him.
